I've gotten a few piercings in the past, and to get each one it took at least a month of convincing and sucking up to my mom to let me get them. After my horizontal eyebrow was pierced a second time, she made it very clear I wasn't going to be getting anymore facial piercings.

So about two months after I got my horizontal eyebrow piercing, I decided to ask her if I could get an inverse navel piercing. Of course, she said no. But if there's one thing I learned in the past year, it's that as far as piercings are concerned, if I don't give up and know enough, I can usually get the piercing. So for the next few weeks I was telling her the myths she'd heard about navel piercings (if you get your navel pierced, you can't get pregnant, for example) were not, in fact, true, and convincing her I'd be fine if I got that piercing. She eventually said yes.

I was ecstatic. My best friend, Maddy, was getting her tongue web done, so we decided to go at the same time. My piercer, Jeff (IAM: FirstStar), was holding a spring special at the time, so if you get two piercings at a time (or you and a friend both get a piercing together) the second piercing is half off. So we made an appointment for next Thursday at 5 o'clock in the afternoon.

The week dragged by, it killed me. But eventually Thursday came. I got home from school and took a quick shower, and Maddy got to my house. We were set. After the both of us grabbed a bite to eat, we left. Seeing as the shop is only a few blocks from my house we walked there.

We were greeted by Marcus (IAM: Captainmarcus), the apprentice, and Jeff . We sat around and talked for a bit about piercings and such while Jeff started setting up. He then turned to Maddy and I and asked who was going first. This was Maddy's first piercing ever, so I decided to go first so she could calm down for a bit.

So Jeff had me stand up straight so he could mark my navel. Apparently I have a crooked navel, so it took a while to make sure the marks were even. After about ten minutes, and getting both Marcus and Maddy's approval of the marks, Jeff got me to lay down.

I was really nervous, but I knew I'd be fine. Jeff changed gloves a few more times, and started setting up the clamps. People have always told me clamps are the most painful part of any piercing, but I've never found clamps to be painful. Not even uncomfortable. Maybe I'm just weird.

Once the clamps were in place, Marcus moved in closer to watch, and Maddy stood beside me to hold my hand. She was actually more nervous than I was about this. After assuring me I could squeeze her hand if I needed to, she finally calmed down a little.

And then Jeff asked if I was ready. This was it. I took a few deep breaths and told him to go for it. Ah yes, the countdown. At three, I was pierced. But this piercing felt, for lack of a better word, different. With all my other piercings, I just felt a sharp pinch. With this one, I could feel the needle going through every millimeter of skin. It hurt a lot. More than any other piercing I've ever gotten.

The pain surprised me. And how long it took to get the needle through. It wasn't unbearably long or anything, just a few seconds. But I'm used to the needle going through in a flash. Once the needle was through, I started to breath again. But the worst wasn't over yet. Jeff still had to put the jewellery in.

He fed the PTFE bar through and the needle fell out. It took a little bit to thread the ball onto the PTFE, but eventually it worked out. And then it was done. I took a few deep breaths and just laid there. After a minute I sat up.

Maddy was surprised to hear me say it hurt, because the entire time I was holding her hand I didn't squeeze, and my face remained blank during the entire procedure. I showed no signs of pain.

So, Maddy got her tongue web pierced, we paid, got our aftercare sheets, and left. I did the usual. Sea salt soaks, washing with antibacterial soap, no touching with dirty hands, you know, all that. It's been about two months now, and my inverse navel is doing great. It's healing up nicely, and about a months ago I got the long PTFE bar changed to a short black PTFE curved bar.

I get a few comments on it, when I choose to show it off. Which is rare. A couple girls in my class just looked shocked and said "Oh, that's ni-...Hey! It's upside down!" Sheesh. My mom likes it too, surprisingly.

I'm really shocked that I'm having such an easy time healing it, because normally I always have trouble healing piercings. But I'm not complaining or anything! Anyways, I think that's about it, yeah.

Happy piercing, all!
