So, I was 15 years old and I went to Shopko with my friend, Stephanie. We decided that we were going to pierce our own belly buttons, so we got all of the stuff while we were there (needles, Dial soap, belly ring, gauze, etc.)

I came home that day and sat there with the needle just kind of working at it. Finally, a couple hours later, I get it through. Man oh man did that hurt. Needless to say that it got infected. My sister caught on because she saw all of the stuff. I showed my mom and she freaked out!!! I had to go to the doctor to get it checked out and he put me on an antibiotic and told me to take the ring out.
About 6 months later, it was healed by then, my mom took me on my 16th birthday to get it done...professionally this time. Everyone was really nice in there especially Ted, the guy who did it and the owner of the place. He had me lay on this bed that looked like a doctor's bed and I just kind of layed there for a while. He cleaned the area, by this time I was shaking. Then he put a clamp on my belly button. I heard a lot of people say that the clamp was really uncomfortable and it hurt, but I didn't think so. He told me to take a deep breath and count so I did. Before I knew it, the needle was through. I can tolerate pain pretty well, but I just can't look at the needle, so I didn't. I felt him put the ring in and it was done.
It wasn't as painful as I thought it would be, just a quick pinch and it was done. He gave me some cleaning solution and told me how to clean it and how often and I was out the door. It was that easy. I admit that it did get infected a couple of times which made it take longer to heal, but it was because I didn't take care of it like I should have. If I could get it done again, I definitely would, but right now I have my heart set on my first tattoo.
I actually want one on my stomach because I thought that maybe it would be kind of like a belly button piercing, but I guess that I'll never know until I actually get it done. To be completely honest with you, I don't think that I'm going to go see Ted again especially for a tattoo because he's a little pricy, but he does an awesome job. Maybe if I save up some money I'll think about it.
I know what you guys are thinking and I was thinking the same thing, show me a girl who doesn't have their belly button pierced these days? I think that they're getting a little over rated, but that's just me. I still think that they're cute especially with all of the new belly ring styles that they're coming out with. I was kind of thinking about getting my belly button pierced on the bottom. Have you guys ever seen that done? It looks really cute. You have this little belly ring on top and then a dangly one on the bottom so that you can see it when you wear your cute little low rider jeans and a little top that shows a little bit of your stomach. Tease the boys a little bit, you know what I'm saying girls?
Well, all that I have to say is, if you want a piercing, go for it. Unlike a tattoo, it isn't permanent except for maybe a little scar. I still have the scar on my belly from when I did my belly button myself, but Ted did his best to cover it up with the new piercing which he did an excellent job at. You know what? Forget about what I said about Ted earlier in this thing, go to him if you're in the area. He's an awesome guy and he does a great job. I haven't seen much of his tattoo work, but what I have seen by him looks amazing. He's known all over the state because of his cleanliness.
You only live once. Whatever it is that you want done to your body whether it's a tattoo, piercing, etc. Go for it. Just make sure that it's something that you really want. Don't listen to what other people say. I know you hear this a lot, but I'm really pushing the individuality thing.
