I've always admired navel piercing. Every time I saw someone with a belly ring, I got this weird feeling that I need to have one as well.

I still don't know how or why they agreed on me having a couple of tattoos. Anyway, when I told them I wanted new ones, they freaked out. Dad even threatened to kick me out of the house.
So, I decided to do something else. Something they won't know about unless I tell them. And no one would be seeing it either, unless I show them. Which is, navel piercing. I told my mother that I'm thinking about getting my navel pierced. That was not a good idea. She freaked out. Although I'm 25 years old, I still have to get my parents' permission for every move I make. Tradition, you know.
I kept looking into different articles and web pages reading about navel piercing, how should it be taken care of, how is the procedure done. I also looked for information about navel piercing in case of pregnancy. Thankfully, I don't have to take it off for the first six months, and even after that I can just use a fishing thread to keep the hole in place. Or I could get it re-opened afterwards. But that's for the future. I'm not married, and I don't have any children. (and I don't plan on having any for the time being). Looking for information online and learning about other experiences was very helpful for me.
Anyway, I got my navel piercing done on April 4th. I was really nervous on my way to the salon, but when I got there, I got a haircut first, then my tattoo artist came and we sat for a few minutes for a cup of coffee (yum!) and then we went to his space of the salon. (aka the tattoo + piercing room)
I'm an overweight person, and I was nervous about getting my navel pierced. You know, tummy always getting in the way and clothes rubbing on navel, etc. But my artist said that it'd be okay, and the piercing will actually be some kind of a motivation for me to start losing weight and eventually get a flatter tummy. That fact cheered me up a lot. Even if it's going to take me forever to lose weight.
So, when we got into his room, he cleaned the area around my navel with Iodine, the marked the piercing place. I was so excited that my stomach started to hurt! Then he asked me to lie down (I was standing when he did the cleaning and marking). I lay down and he tried the clamps on first to see if he had picked the right size. I was waiting and waiting and waiting, and then he said "we're done".
I was like "huh? how? when?" I honestly haven't felt anything! We got a good laugh of that. I didn't feel any pain, not even when he inserted the needle. Even after he was done, and for two weeks I haven't felt any pain. The area wasn't numb either. I wonder if this happens with everyone. Although, now I feel a little bit of pain when I sit for a long time at work, especially since my pants rub against the piercing.
I headed to work after I finished at the salon, and I called my mom to tell her how my haircut session went. And she was like "you didn't do anything stupid, did you?" and I told her that I got the piercing. Dude, she was pissed. And she told me not to tell anyone, especially my dad. I told her that it's not like I'm gonna go and show off my chubby stomach to the world. But, when I got home, she was all cool and acted like nothing happened at all. I took that as a good sign. She will nag me about it a little bit in the future, and that will be it. She'll forget about it until the next time she notices it. I don't know how dad will react, but I'm pretty sure I won't be telling him anytime soon.
My barbell size is 16g, I plan on up-gauging it to 14g, but I'm not sure if I can find any barbells of that size over here (I live in Armenia). And the good barbells are only 16g in size. But that doesn't bother me at this moment. All I'm interested in is to get the piercing healed so I'd be able to start changing the jewelry.
So far, I've only told my mother and my sisters about it. Also, I couldn't keep it from my best friends. They were even kind enough to help me with the after care. And they always call to ask how is it healing so far.
My next project is either getting new tattoos, or a new piercing. Although, I still have to decided where to place them.
