When It just happened
Studio Matchbox
Location Fort Myers Beach, Florida
My parents said I could get my belly button pierced when I turned 16. I've been 16 since December (it's now April) and I finally decided to go for it. Before I went, I searched Tattoo and Body Piercing Shops in Fort Myers, Florida (where I live). I found Matchbox which is on Fort Myers Beach.

I didn't read much about navel peircings before I got it done...just some experiences on this site. I didn't know what to expect. During the whole car ride I was shaking. I was so nervous. I felt like I was going to puke. The last time I felt this nervous was back in February...right before my Sophomore Class Secretary speech in front of the Sophomore Class. I was also re-considering it on the way because I thought I was too fat. I'll admit, I'm not skinny at all. I don't have a flat stomach. I couldn't help but feel too fat for it. But I had to get this done. I couldn't just back out.

We got to Fort Myers Beach around 11 AM. After about 5 minutes of searching, we found Matchbox. We walked in...and the guy was like, "Let me guess. Belly button." I was like, "Yeah, how'd ya know?" He's like, "Young girl. Mother. Beachwear. I see it all the time." So, he asked if I was under 18, I said yes. He gave me and my mom a notary and we had to get it signed at this place that was a short walk away. So we got it signed and came back. He gave me a tray with different belly button rings on it and told me to pick out the one I wanted. He gave the prices at that time too. I picked out a simple curved barbell. Then we payed. It cost about $50. After, he went over the cleaning/after care procedure. He told us exactly what to do. After that, he said he would go to the back and get the room ready. Five minutes later, he was ready.

I was shaking like crazy...no lie. I was sooo damn nervous. He told me to come back with him to the room. My mom was like, "Go ahead." And he's like, "Oh, you're coming too." And my mom was like, "I'm not watching." And I was like, "That makes 2 of us." And we all just laughed. He really lightened up the mood...because he knew how nervous I was. He had me pull up my shirt and tuck it into the bikini top I was wearing. He marked the dots for where the belly button ring would be. Then he told me to sit down on the chair. It was one of those black chairs...that you see in a tattoo place. He put the back down and the legs up...so I was laying down. He took out the clamps and the needle. Everything was sterilized. There was even an award on the wall for being the most sterilized place. He positioned the clamps with the dots and was like, "This is the clamp that you're feeling." And I just kept staring at the ceiling...which had a sticker with a drawing of Michael Jackson's face on it and had a funny saying on it. It really took my mind off of what was going on. So anyway, I'm sitting there and I feel a small pinch...and I just thought it was the clamps. But apparently, it was the needle!!!! I didn't even feel it. So he went over, got the belly button ring, and followed it through. Then he put the ball on....and I was done. I tipped him and then we left.

Overall, it was a great experience. I'm glad I got it done. It didn't hurt AT ALL! Now, it's hurting a little...but just a slight throbbing pain. Nothing more. It's not red anymore. Honestly, I'm really glad I decided to go for it. I don't regret it at all. I can't wait to show off my b-e-a-utiful belly button ring this summer. And I totally can't wait to show all of my friends after Spring Break. They're gonna be surprised!!

If you live in the Fort Myers area...I'd HIGHLY suggest Matchbox on Fort Myers Beach. The guys are so awesome. They really help to lighten the mood and make you feel comfortable. They know what they're talking about and they can answer all of your questions. They also have a HUGE selection of jewelry to choose from. It's a really great place. And like I said, I'd highly suggest it. Ohh. And my mom would suggest it as well! She loved the service and she said it was a positive experience. She said it opened her eyes to body peircings (not that she'll get one...but ya know!) But like I said, it was a great experience. I can't wait to get more body peircings!!
