A year ago I ''decided'' (or technically I was told!) to get my belly button pierced. Now, this is something that I have wanted doing for years. And years. And years. But never got round to it...actually I was too scared of the pain factor (I am NOT good with needles, in fact I'm a right wimp where needles are concerned!)and of course, the mother wouldn't let me get it done as she branded it as ''common'' and ''sluttish''.

I was in the town centre shopping with my two lovely mates, Steph (who has her navel pierced already) and Alex (who hasn't). Steph very kindly turned around to me and said ''hey, why don't you go get your belly button pierced now?'' Me, not wanting to be the party pooper eventually agreed to go check out some prices. We eventually found a nice place, Ace, and decided to go in. (I'm quite a fussy person when it comes to hygiene and stuff...so it took a while to find a place I approved of!)By this time my heart was racing, and I hadn't even asked how much it was! So Steph took charge and found out the price whilst I tried to hide my fear and checked out the navel bars.
It turned out to be quite cheap, and the place looked good, but the fear of the pain was still holding me back. And also the fear of my mother finding out! My two so-called friends sat themselves down on the coaches in the waiting room, and began to flick through the magazines. I asked them over and over again what the hell they were doing, and their reply every time was
''We're waiting for you to get your ass in there and get your belly button pierced! They've got a free slot, take it!"
I kept begging that we go for some lunch first then come back, but they were having non of it! Steph knows me better than anybody else, she knew if I the studio now, I'd never come back...no matter how much I promised I would. And she'd had to put up with years of me moaning about wanting it done...poor girl! I begged for another 30 minutes, using lines such as
''I really really want it done, promise I'll come back?''
But nothing really seemed to work. They were staying put until I had had it pierced! Finally, after wandering over to the counter a few times, flicking through the posters of the tattoos several times as well, I eventually saw defeat and gave up. They had won! But I was about to get my revenge!!
The room where they did their piercing work was quite small so only Steph could come in with me, we had to leave Alex guarding my bag! My piercer, Mark I think his name was, was actually really lovely. He knew I was scared (he'd been laughing at me whilst I was begging my friends to leave!) and decided the best way to make me feel at ease was to take the mick out of me! Actually, he did it in a nice way so I wasn't really too bothered! He told me to lie down on the bed-thing (I had problems here, the bed-thing was quite high and I had to jump in a stupid kind of way to get onto it, I looked like a right fool). He then asked me to lie down and to lift my top up. He then cleaned around the navel area and marked it with a pen. Asking if it was in the right place, he turned his back and started to get ready. I suddenly had a thought, he hadn't asked me what jewellery I wanted! I tried mouthing this to Steph but she just looked at me blankly and asked if I was feeling alright! When he turned around again, I asked to be shown what jewellery was offer. Choosing a turquoise coloured bar, he began spraying my stomach with a freezing spray. Asking if I was ready (ready, me? No!) he began. I was squeezing Steph's hand so tightly I'm surprised she didn't cry out in pain! Anyway, about 2 minutes later I'm still lying there, with my eyes tightly shut...and Mark says I'm done
''What?! You've done it?! I didn't feel a thing!''
Laughing, I paid and thanked him for being so gentle. For the rest of the day, I kept rubbing my tummy and smiling. Anybody looking at me might have thought I was pregnant but no, I'd just had my navel pierced! Woohoo! Now its completely healed but unfortunately I'm allergic to some metals and only wear the bar it got pierced with. Not to worry, it still looks beautiful! To anybody who's thinking about getting their belly button done, do it, its not bother what-so-ever!
