A few months had past since I had gotten my last piercing done. Seeing as it's the holiday season and I had some extra cash on me I figured it was a good time to go get something new done. Over the years I've always considered getting many different piercings. I was always unsure about navel piercings, I'm not sure why either. I got my upper navel done about 6 months ago and it was very painless and pretty simple. The healing process was alright but the piercing got irritated and the redness had just gone away recently. But I always wanted to get the sides of my navel pierced too. Angled up a bit, so it kind of looks like a peace sign. Seeing as my upper navel was pretty much healed and looking good I figured I'd go and get the sides done as well. So an adventure began.

I grabbed two of my buddies who were also interesting in getting some new piercings and we headed into the city. We went to Davenport to the usual studio we go to, Rites of Passage 2. I walked in and talked about getting the piercings done. I got some quick and simple paperwork and paid the money needed. Then I headed back to get started.

The piercer washed his hands in the back room while I waited to get my piercings. He set up a stainless steel tray, covered with some paper towels. He grabbed a pair of needles and two curved barbells that would be used in the procedure. He then cleaned off my belly button and the skin around it with some disinfectant. He then told me to stand up and hold my shirt up so he could mark and measure where the piercing and jewelry would go. After the purple dots were marked on, he showed me a mirror and asked if it looked how I wanted. I agreed and the process continued. The piercer then told me to lay down on a bench with my arms at my side and my shirt folded up, it was getting close for the actual piercing.

The piercer switched gloves once again and grabbed a needle. He asked me if I was ready and of course I was. I felt the needle poke against my skin as the piercer lined up the needle to the proper markings on the first side and told me to breathe. He counted to three and on three he carefully slide the needle through my skin and out. It was no problem at all, the pain was very minimal and since the piercing didn't use clamps and did it free hand it was a lot more comfortable. I sighed as he transferred the first barbell in, the first one was done with. I laughed about how easy it was and then joked that the second one would hurt more, seeing as the second one of any piercing always does hurt more to me for some reason. The piercer then got ready for the next piercing. I took some deep breaths and let him know I was ready. He lined up the needled and counted to three again. I closed my eyes and jumped a little on this one, it hurt a little but nothing too unbearable. I swallowed and waited for the jewelry transfer. The jewelry was put in and it was over. I was right about the second hurting more.

After the procedure was complete, the piercer cleaned up the piercings and the area. I stood in front of the mirror and gazed at how beautiful it looked. I was impressed and fell in love with my new piercings right away. I walked out to the lobby to get aftercare and thanked the piercer and told him how good it looked.

After it was all said and done I was very happy I went and got the sides of my navel pierced. It was a simple process and was very painless. The more and more piercings I get and more experiences I endure, the more and more I love and adore all forms of body modifications. It's been about a week now and my piercings are looking wonderful. The piercer told me that they might reject, but that risk is slim since he was able to place them fairly deep and they turned out very well. Even if they do reject it won't be that bad, I just hope I am able to enjoy them for some time and that they heal very nicely. Either way, it will be a learning experience I can gain knowledge from for the future. I know in a few more months I will be going right back to where I was to get plenty more piercings, as well as tattoos. I have many plans, and I'm not about to stop where I am at. Happy piercing, everyone!
