When Three months ago
Studio Lucky 13
Location Ferry St. Niagara Falls Ontario Canada
About three months ago, in mid-august me and my friend were walking by Lucky 13's and I decided I wanted to go in and check out prices for Navel rings. I told the guy working that I wanted two on top, going diagonal, then once those were fully healed I was going to get one on the bottom. I asked him roughly how much that would be; he told me that because it was different, and he doesn't get to pierce things like that very often, he would do them both for the price of one, $40. I thought that was a sweet deal, so I told him I would do it (and no this was not just an on the spot decision, I had been considering it for a while).

My friend did not want to watch me get it done because he can not handle things like that, so he went and sat outside, while I went in the back and sat down while the guy cleaned, got his needles, and got everything ready.

It took him about 20mins to get the dots to be as even as they could be, it was aggravating us both, but when they were finally even, I hopped up on the table and laid down. He told me that the first one should not really hurt, but the second one would be a bit more painful, because he had to pull it over and the skin would already be tender because of the first one. I was not scared when he was about to do the first one, but when he pushed the needle through it didn't want to come out the other side, so he had to give it a bit more strength, causing it to hurt quite a bit. Keeping what he said about the second one being more painful in mind, I was definitely scared. So when said okay I'm going to do the second one now, I squeezed my belt (I always do that when I'm getting a piercing for some reason), and closed my eyes, he counted one, two, then three, pushed, and it went through like butter. It didn't hurt at all. I was so surprised, and relieved at the same time. He told me what to do to clean it, that it has to stay in 6-9 months, and what to do if I have any problems, and I left. It looked so good.

When I first got home, and for about the first week, it hurt to bend, to move too fast, to sit in certain positions, and to do basically anything that involved bending and moving quickly. But after a while I learned what I could and couldn't do, and then it just stopped hurting all together.

For about the first month it was doing so good, i was cleaning it exactly how he told me, and it seemed to be working. But then about half way through the second month I discovered that it was starting to get a keloid around the top of the one ring. (I knew it was a keloid because I had one on my ear a while back, and I found out on BME that tea tree oil usually gets rid of them if they are still new). So I sent my mom out to buy me some, I used it for about 2 weeks, and nothing happened, if anything it got worse and one developed on the bottom of the same ring too. So I got my mom to call my family doctor, she told him what the problem was and he put me on some antibiotics to try and get rid of them. I was on the antibiotics and still cleaning it exactly how i had been for a week.

During the week I was on them it started to get very crusty and started peeling. I knew that I shouldn't pick at it, so I left it alone (despite how gross it really was). Until one day when I was at school, I sat down in my chair, the ring hit the table, and the scab came off. So much fluid came out. It would not stop bleeding, or draining. It wasn't just blood coming out; it was like a yellowish fluid that was really sticky. So I went to the office, told them what the problem was and I called my mom. She took me to the doctor and he said it was good for it, it needed to drain. I left it alone, and another scab healed over it.

Right now it is just starting to actually heal, and im still cleaning it. It doesn't look great, but it looks better. It's not something I want to show off right now.

I was told that it should be healed my mid-February, then I will be able to change it.

This is a picture of what it currently looks like:

It's not the best, or fully healed, but it was a lot worse a few weeks ago.
