So I had been thinking about getting my navel pierced for a few weeks and was planning to get it done over Christmas break, after I had done a few hundred more crunches so my abs would be perfect. But of course, things rarely work out as I plan them. Yesterday, I had nothing to do until about 5 and I was bored, just driving around, and thought 'hey, I should go get my belly button done', so I got the directions to the place and called to get the prices and everything and drove down there. When I got there, there were a couple girls getting tattoos done and I had to wait about 10 or 15 minutes. Finally one of the guys comes out and I tell him what I wanted. They checked my ID and I paid, and I got the aftercare kit and everything and then it was time to go back into the piercing room.

Then he made dots on my skin with a marker and told me to check that they were even and where I wanted them. I looked in the mirror on the wall and they seemed fine. Next I laid down on the table and he brought the clamp over and put it on and adjusted it. I've heard horror stories about this part, but it didn't hurt at all, just felt a little heavy. He adjusted it a couple times, walking over to the table and then back to me.
This was when I started to get nervous. I was thinking that there was no way I could go through with this, it would be way worse my tattoo, what was I thinking? I didn't say anything, just lay there holding onto the edges of the bench/bed thing and staring at the ceiling so I would see the needle, because I figured I would probably pass out if I did. He adjusted the clamp one last time and went over to get the needle. He came back over with the needle [which I didn't see, I was staring at the ceiling the whole time], and asked if I was ready. I mumbled something along the lines of "oh my god", which I guess he took for a yes because the next thing I knew the needle was going through me. It felt a lot like getting my cartilage pierced, a kind of burning pinch, and then it was over. Not as bad as I had expected. Next he put the ring in [I got a CBR-captive bead ring], which I hardly felt at all. Then he screwed the ball on and told me to sit up. I looked at it and there was a little bit of blood on it but nothing bad. It looked pretty awesome. I looked in mirror, and it looked just like I thought it would. It was a little sore but not bad. I sat there for a couple minutes to make sure it wouldn't start bleeding crazily or anything weird like that. He told me all the aftercare stuff, and I asked a few questions about how long it would be sore for and that sort of thing, and then he gave me a little card that said everything your supposed to do on it, and then I left.
I had forgotten that you are supposed to eat right before you get anything pierced/tattooed, because your blood sugar drops like crazy, so as I was driving home I got pretty dizzy, but that passed and everything was ok. It was kind of sore for maybe an hour, off and on. I got to work and had a little trouble bending over to far, but nothing to bad. After that first hour it only hurt if I bumped it or twisted in some funny way.
That night in the shower I cleaned it for the first time. There was some blood on it, and it was still a little sore. I turned it a little but it hurt to do that too much so I just cleaned the part sticking out and sprayed the sea salt spray on it. The next morning it was just a little sore when I moved in a weird way, but that's it. Cleaning was fine, it rotated fine and everything, although it did get a little sore after I was done. There was hardly any redness at all. Right now it's the afternoon after, it's been itching a little off and on, but not sore really, not redness or bleeding, everything seems to be going fine. My only advice is, eat some sugar before you go!
