I am definitely a girl who loves navel piercing. After the original having to persuade my parent at the age of 14 to let me have it done, I instantly fell in love with it. It wasn't as painful as I thought it would have been and the pain went away almost instantly. It looked straight and didn't grow out hardly at all. It was so perfect and suited me just fine so I thought I would go for having all four sides done but I had to wait another two years before I could because I knew my parents would not approve, it took long enough to get them to let me have that one done.

I went to a shop called Metal Guru to get it done. I'd had a few ear piercings done there but they were all done with a gun so I wasn't sure what they were like at other piercings. I went in and spoke to the lady and she seemed completely fine and helpful enough with any questions that I had to ask. I went through with her and she sorted everything out for me while I got myself ready. The whole process was quick and easy. There was very little pain and she had lined it up perfectly with the first one. I was very pleased and would have gone back there but I felt like I wanted a more experienced studio to go to for my next piercings.
Then I thought that it was time for a new one and off I went to get my left side done. I went to Canterbury because I had heard that The Belly Bar were quite good. I went in to have a loo around first of all and then once I thought they were okay and seemed friendly enough I asked about having it done. They showed me the variety of jewellery and it was just ordinary 1.6mm navel bars with one jewel and one small ball. Choosing the jewellery was easy enough and so I paid and then we went upstairs to have it done. It was simple, as were the other ones, but they didn't talk much about the process or warn me about any problem it could have. They used a freezing spray, which I've later found out that shouldn't be used and can cause permanent nerve damage to that area, and didn't ask me whether I wanted it or not. Then after finishing the piercing they informed me that side piercings were more likely to grow out that top and bottom ones but by that chance it was too late for me too have changed my mind in case it would have grown out and would have been a waste of money. The piercing and aftercare went fine and it had stopped hurting completely and was healing just fine, but after a couple of week I noticed that it was pointing down at an angle towards my belly button. This was due to the fact that the jewel was weighing it down.
Now I have the last one done and I went to a different piercing studio in Canterbury called Skin Illustrations. A few of my friends have had tattoos there before but the piercing part is completely separate but I thought I would give it a chance anyway. I went in and looked at the jewellery and already I could see more of a variety and on the price list it had options of a bar or a BCR. I asked him if he would be able to do the piercing for me and he agreed that it would be fine. He asked me if I wanted a BCR or a bar and he also asked if I wanted it to be done straight or at the same angle as the other one. I told him to do which ever he thought would be better and he went with his instinct. He lined the piercing up perfectly and I now have BCR's in both of the side piercings and they both look symmetrical. Although they are both at an angle, they are both at the same angle and it looks great. I have Marcus at Skin Illustrations to thank for that. Already I have talked to him about doing 6 of my surface piercings for me, and 2 of my tongue piercing and he is going to re-pierce my nose for me.
So this is merely a piece of advice for those who haven't thought carefully enough about who they go to for their piercings and those who want the side navel piercing. Just make sure you don't make the same mistakes as I do. In the end you may be happy with the result, but at first it seems so inaccurate and if you can just leave it a while before getting your piercing, then why not wait when you can have perfection when you find it.
