My pointless Piercing

About 3 or 4 months ago my friend asked me if I would like to get my belly button pierced at her piercing party that she was going to have. She said a girl named Julie travels around and does piercing at peoples houses and the more people she got to do this, the less money she would have to spend on hers. Her mom had gotten hers done by the same girl and assured me it's safe and clean and everything. I asked my mom if I would be allowed to and she was actually pretty ok with it. She didn't want me to get anymore holes in my ears anyway although I only have two on each side at the moment and she said she didn't mind the look of having your navel pierced.

It costs $45 to get it done with her plus you get to choose your own barbell. Once I got there a couple people chickened out so there wasn't that many of us to get our stuff done. Julie said that barbells were better to pierce with because because they move better with your body. I picked out a silver one with a blue stone on the bottom. I was fairly excited to get it done so I offered to be the first one.

She set up in a bedroom so we could lie on the bed so I went in and laid down. First Julie cleaned the area around my belly button. Then she put a little dot and asked if I liked where it was at. I said yes plus I figured she knew more than me about where they should be placed. She then put this stuff on the needle, then put the clamp on. She said on the count of 3. 1,2... Then it was through. I felt my body tense up a little but it was fine, just kind of a pinch. I looked down and the needle was sticking out and it looked kind of cool. Then she slipped the barbell in and I was done! She gave me papers and told me how to clean it. She just said to use soft soap once a day on it and to avoid touching it too much.

I walked over to show Brittany and her mom how it turned out. Even though I had a small bellybutton and it was a fairly big barbell it looked pretty good. I was looking at the other barbells just for fun and to wait while everyone else was getting theirs done, then I started to feel kind of dizzy. I didn't want to say anything I thought it's no big deal but then I felt like I was going to be sick so I told Brit and she said for me to sit down on the coach with a cold cloth on my head. Julie's assistant asked if I ever fainted before and I said no. He said I was probably just a little uneasy because it bled a bit and I was probably really excited and overwhelmed about getting it done so I sat there for about 5 minutes, then I was fine.

I had no problem really except I bleed quite easily so it bled a couple times through the run of the day from bending over to like tie my shoe and things like that but through the night it was fine and I think I even slept on my stomach. For the first couple weeks I was trying to be really careful of the way I sat and stuff but I tended to hit it off my desk a lot when I stood up and down. I also was messing around with my little brother and he'd hit it a bit so that probably didn't help. Although I hit it a lot it looked fine for the first couple weeks but after about a month it started to look sore and infected and hurt sometimes. It stayed that way for the next three even after I tried using salt spray and those kind of things but than I just decided to take it out because I was in wrestling anyway and it wouldn't heal by then. Plus it would be a nuisance to take it in and out everytime I was in a match.

I'm pretty much positive I could have made it better but I realized that maybe I should just wait till I'm older to get it done again. Also I think I should have gotten a smaller barbell or hoop or something because I have a really small belly button and that was a pretty big and heavy barbell. Even though it didn't work for me the first time, I'll still probably get it redone but maybe on the bottom of my navel instead or something and take a bit better care of it.
