When I fist decided to get a piercing I was 18 years old. I really had no desire before that time to get any type of body mod until one day I just woke up and began to just itch for one. I still remember the day when I decided to get it done. I woke up, walked to school, sat down in my art class and began talking to my girlfriends about my new interest. After some time one of my girlfriends asked if I would like her to come with me to the piercing studio when I finally went to get it done. I agreed and promptly proposed that we go after school--she agreed.

It took awhile because we live a bit out of the city but it was a fun adventure anyways plus we were both really giddy about the whole thing that we were going to experience. When we arrived downtown I thought I was going to be much more nervous but surprisingly I wasn't. I was extremely calm but very excited about what was going to happen.
Initially I wanted to get my piercing done at Stainless Steal Studios but when we got there they told us the piercer wouldn't be ready for another 2 hours. I didn't want to wait that long and we had to meet some other people later on so we trekked down the street to another well known tattoo/piercing shop that I knew some of my other friends had been pierced at. The shop that we ended up at was Way Cool Tattoos.
When I entered the store I looked around and made sure everything was very clean and not shady by any means. I walked up to the counter and I told the receptionist that I would like to have my navel pierced. She then asked me if I wanted a barbell or a ring. I know some places only pierce with rings so I was kind of surprised. I took a barbell though 'cause I didn't want to wait forever to change the ring and I knew I would be happier with a barbell in navel instead of a ring. I then handed her my $65 and signed some paper work and went into the back room.
I wanted my girlfriend to come along with me, but they said they were only allowed two people in the back at a time--the piercer and the assistant. That kind of sucked and I was bummed but also stoked because I was just about to be pierced. The piercer told me to watch him unpack things and set up so I knew everything was sanitized and clean. I nodded my head and then laid down on the table. Then the nervousness began to kick in and I started to get worked up. The assistant told me to take deep breaths and just relax--I was trying.
Finally the piercer put the clamps on my tummy and told me to tell him if it was too tight or not--it wasn't. Then he asked if I was ready and I nodded and shut my eyes tight. Then I felt a giant POKE and I gave a little "ouch!" and that was it. He told me to just hold on while he put the jewelry in and then I was done! I got up off the table gave my piercer a hug and a tip and then ran out to the front to show my girlfriend my new piercing.
>From that point on I was running on adrenaline and her and me went to a near by coffee shop to just sit and chat and marvel at my new addition to my body. I remember calling a bunch of people all hyper like and telling them about what I had done and how happy I was. The first person I called was my sister who couldn't believe that I had done it because everyone knew how much of a wimp I was when it came to pain. [I first got my ears pierced at like, 15] yeah I know i'm such a dork.
Anyways, I was so happy I had decided to get it done. And I plan on keeping it for a really long time. Overall the pain didn't really hurt that much. It just felt like someone was pinching you as hard as they could. But don't take my word on it pain wise. Everyone has a different tolerance for pain and although mine didn't really hurt, for someone else it might be awfully painful.
All this happened about a year and a half ago and as of today I still have my navel piercing and I am still extremely happy with it. For anyone who wants to start out with a beginners piercing, I suggest getting your navel done. It was easy to take care of and it looks really good. I promise you will not regret it.
