I have always been into piercings from an early age but due to my parents being very old-fashioned I don't have as much as I would like. So I decided to get a reverse navel piercing to match my original one which I got done when I was 14 (that must be illegal!!). It was a piercing which could be easily disguised if my mother didn't like it, but would satisfy my lust for a piercing. I had been looking about on BME for a while, reading other peoples stories and looking at photos, so I was clued up on what I was going to get.

One the day i took my best friend Michelle along with me for moral support and someone to talk to when I was waiting. She has no piercings so would not be able to tell me she thought it would be painful. I was sitting in the waiting room for about 20 minutes as there were some men before me getting their bars changed. When I was waiting I filled in the appropriate paperwork and picked out the bar I wanted it pierced with. I chose a doubled jewel bar. Then Kirsty called for me to come into the room. I have to be honest I was not worried or nervous in the slightest.

Kirsty asked me if I was able to take my standard navel piercing out and keep it out for at least a day, which I was able to do having had it done for several years. Kirsty was recommended to me by many people and everything they said was correct. She was such a nice person and was chatty which made the experience must more pleasant and enjoyable. When I walked into the piercing room and Kirsty and laid all the prepared piercing equipment and clean barbell on a silver, hospital-like table so I could see everything was new and very clean. She asked me to fold my top up while she marked me and cleaned the area. She asked me if I thought that the marking was straight, which it was, and I told her I was very happy to go ahead. Then she then sprayed the area with the freezing agent then told me to lie down on the bed so she could pierce me easier. To be honest even though I am not squeamish I still didn't look at the actual piercing process, so I could not explain how it was actually done. I felt little pain, yet I do have a high pain threshold, I would describe it more as I strong pressure. Before I knew it the experience was over and I was looking at my cracking new piercing.

She covered my piercing with two large plaster things because it was bleeding quite a lot, and continued to bleed till later on that night. This did surprise me because i am not a real bleeder.

Kirsty talked through the aftercare procedures and gave me a sheet of paper explaining everything she had just said. I already knew the aftercare but it is always helpful to hear it again. Since then I have been cleaning my piercing with salt water and always making sure I touch it with clean hands.I paid the 28.00 pounds and went home with me mate feeling really good and pleased with myself. Driving home felt a little sore so I would suggest to anyone not to drive and to get someone else to drive.

It's been around a month now and everything is going fine. The only pain or discomfort I have felt since is when it catches on trousers or then someone accidentally bashes you, but this is only a sharp, quick pain: nothing to worry about.I am now planning on a next piercing. Will be waiting another month or so before I change the bar, just to make sure everything is healed.

To anyone who wants to get this piercing, I say go for it. It's totally worth it. It looks great and I don't think it's one of the more popular piercings. It looks great, especially if you already have your bellybutton pierced. Just make sure that you look around for the best piercer you can find, look at their work and ensure it comes up to a good standard. And to anyone local please use Kirsty as she is a great piercer and a nice person.

Finally please go to a professional and if you are too young to get pierced and your parents wont give you their approval just wait until you're 18, don't let your friends pierce you with a safety pin and some ice. In the end waiting a little while for the piercing outweighs the risks and scarring of a poorly done piercing.
