I have wanted an inverse navel and a second eyebrow ring for a while now. My mom always said "no...you do not need any more piercings." (Moms just do not understand anything.) So I decided I would do something myself. (NOT recommended.)

I'm bored at the moment because they have been practicing so long, leaving me sitting there with nothing to do, bored out of my mind. So I decided "I'm going to pierce myself right here, right now. I' am finally going to have my inverse navel." I took out my needle, which was previously sterilized ( I guess this was kind of a subconsciously planned piercing.), cleaned my navel, and decided where the placement would be. Too bad it was kind of dark in there. (Like the idiot I am, I forgot to clean the ring. This comes in later...)
So I open the needle, and start to push it through. I didn't think it would hurt, because my standard navel didn't hurt the tiniest bit. So I figured this should be a piece of cake, right? WRONG. After about five minutes of pushing, I got it about half way through. Boy, was I wrong about the pain. The guys were still jamming out, and they play in a metal band. So that somewhat motivated me, and at the heaviest part of the song, I pushed as hard as I could, and the needle slid right through to the other side. Pretty damn painful. And a little bloody too.
That's when the band realized what I was doing. They were kind of shocked that I just did it right there. They all kept asking if it hurt and i said, "Hell, I'll be honest. It hurt like a bitch." So the guys kept playing leaving me there in amazement.
Now I'm sitting there on my friend's couch, looking at my stomach in shock that I actually pierced myself. So I say "Ok, I guess it is time for me to put in the barbell." Then I realized it wasn't clean. So I had to walk around with a needle in my belly for a few minutes while I cleaned the barbell. That is also NOT recomended. (You can poke yourself a lot if you are stupid enough to not put anything over the pointy end...like me.)
So I get the barbell in, but I cannot for the life of me get the ball on the end. So the piercing is getting a little irritated from me fiddling around with it so much. I finally get the ball on, and I clean the piercing.
I decided to go outside to have a cigarette and calm my nerves. I was pretty shaky seeing as I've never pierced myself before. No trying to get up was a toughie. My pants kept hitting the bottom ball and you would hear me even over the loud music yelling "OW Damn it!" So you really should be careful with it.
It's been about a week now. I haven't had any problems at all really. I slept on it without pain, and the only pain was when my pants hit it. It's still a little red, but it's a lot better than when i got my standard navel done. I clean it twice a day, and try as hard as I can to not touch it.
As another warning, if you get it done, be extremely careful when you sit down. If you are not careful, or you sit down too fast, the top of your pants can bump it and cause pain and some irritation.
My mom found out a couple of days ago. She got pretty pissed. She told me that if there was any sign of an infection, I had to take it out right then and there. It took me about 10 minutes to prove to her that I have done my reading, and you are not supposed to do that. Because then the infection can get trapped inside of the piercing. So she let me keep it, but told me not to let my dad find out. Especially that I did it myself. He would kill me. I'm absolutely in love with it. Even if it isn't centered.
But in conclusion, Self piercing is a BAD idea. My navel is not centered, and I didn't know what I was doing. I could have hurt myself... I strongly recommended that any piercing you want, get it done by a professional. That's why we have them.
