I've always wanted my belly button pierced ever since my best friend Kelcie got hers done. She was 15 and I was 13. My mother passed away when I was 10, so I live with my dad. I'm the only daughter in our family. My dad is awesome, but he has no tattoos or piercings, so he's not really "for" them. When I asked him if I can get it done he told me that a navel ring was too "risqué" for a 13 year old. I still disagree to this day about that fact! He said, "No Jessica" everytime I asked him (which was probably once a day for 2 years).

Then my 15th birthday came around! I thought this would be the perfect time to sit down and talk to my dad about getting my navel piercing. As I said before, my dad is cool and all but he says no to certain things (usually the certain things that I would do anything to get!) so I was worried he'd say no AGAIN! But strangely when I asked him, he said, "Sure we can go when you get back from New York." (I was going on vacation for the summer) I couldn't believe what I heard! I was finally getting my navel pierced!

I was back home and it was Saturday morning. I asked my dad if we can do it today and he said sure. I called Kelcie and she came with us. We went to Ink Link Studios in West Palm Beach. So if you're in that area, go there! We got there and since I was only 15 I needed I.D. as well as my dad to prove that he was my parent/guardian. Once we showed them the correct I.D.s, We had to get the papers notarized (they had a notary there, which was VERY convenient). So the guy notarized the paperwork and everything was all set. They told me to pick out the ring I wanted and I picked out a pretty magenta one! There was a large amount of people in there because it's really popular, so there was a short wait, about 15 minutes.

Then they called my name. THAT'S when I started getting nervous! I was asking sooo many questions to Kelcie. "What if it hurts?! What if it's crooked?! What if I don't like how it looks?!" I was so scared. They brought me into a small room. My piercer's name was Tommy and he was really nice. He washed my stomach off with some stuff (I don't know what it was) and he told me not to touch it. Then, he marked where I'd have it pierced and asked me to check and see if it was where I liked it. I said yes. So he told me to lay down on a dentist-like chair. My dad was at the door laughing at me because I was scared and Kelcie was holding my hand. We then watched him unwrap a sterilized 14ga needle. And unwrap the belly ring that I chose earlier.

I asked him, "Where's the clamp?" and he told me that he doesn't use clamps because they cause excess swelling and pain. (I disagreed with him because I had many friends whose belly buttons turned out perfectly and they had clamps on theirs, but I kept that to myself!) Then he asked if I had any more questions. I said no. He told me to take a deep breath in. (I was SOOO scared it would hurt!)And then he told me to breathe out. While I exhaled, the needle went through my navel. I had to ask Kelcie if he pierced it because I honestly did not feel a thing! Then he put the ring in, which didn't hurt either. Then I was done! It was GORGEOUS!

He told me how to take care of it (Bactine and Saline Solution twice a day).He also said the beach is great for it because of the salt water. He told me I can change the ring in 2 months as long as I kept cleaning it. He also said it should heal anywhere from 3-9 months. Then we payed him, thanked him and left. It's 5 days old now, and there are no problems with it! It's just a little bit pink around the top and bottom. All of my friends LOVE it and so do I! I'm SO happy I got it done and I wouldn't take it back in a heartbeat!

Next, I want to get my nose, my tongue, and my cartilage on my ear! I love piercings so much. They're beautiful. (I'll probably have to wait until I'm 18 to get my tongue and my nose pierced though!)

Anyways! if you're debating getting your belly pierced, I say go for it! It's gorgeous! Sure, people say its "unoriginal" because everyone has it done, but that just means a lot of people like it! There's nothing wrong with that! If you like it, do it! :)
