I have always wanted to get some kind of piercing since I was about 11. I wasn't allowed to get any kind of piercing until I earned it. I already had my ears pierced three times and that was getting boring so I asked my mom to get my belly button pierced. Of course she said I had to earn it. So I don't remember what I did, but it must've been good for her to let me get it done. She took me to Hammer's because that's where my friend went and hers turned out nice. The piercer did all the paperwork and everything then I picked out the ring. I picked out a blue hoop. They don't use barbells, which really made me mad. So he marked me and everything looked ok. But he didn't pierce where he marked and it turned out pretty bad. Even though it's not crooked or anything, I'm not happy with it. About a year later, my mom said that if I make varsity then I can get another piercing. I made varsity and I asked for my tongue. She said no so I compromised with an inverse navel.

I asked several of my friends and they said not to get it done. They said they knew a couple of people with it and they weren't happy with it. This girl in my geometry class had her navel pierced twice. Only she did them herself. She told me that it hurt really bad and it really annoying and irritating. Hers took over a year to heal but she was sweet and used peroxide and Neosporin. Anyone who knows anything about piercings knows not to put that on it, peroxide dries it out and Neosporin clogs it. She ended up taking it out and it left a nasty scar. She said I would probably end up taking it out but I knew I wouldn't no matter how infected it got or how irritating it got because I hate scars.

Since I didn't like how my first one turned out, we decided to go to professional tattoo. The piercer asked me what I wanted and I told him my bellybutton. We went through the same process with paperwork and picking out jewelry. This place pierced with barbells so I picked out one with pink gems. Very cute. So he took me back and explained to me about how everything has it's own package, and how everything is sterilized. So then he marked me and told me to look in the mirror. Everything looks good. So he told me to lie down on the chair that looked like a dentist chair. Then the clamps. Everyone said they hurt. But I went through it before and it actually kind of tickled. (I am very ticklish.) Everyone also told me that it would hurt more than the first time because it's a surface piercing. It didn't feel any different. It felt like a bee sting. It didn't hurt one bit. I felt the needle go through and then it was over. He had a hard time putting the ball on the end because he was using some things that looked like pliers to put it on. He didn't want to use his hands because he said it wasn't the best idea. I had my top ring out to make it easier on him. I asked if it was ok to put it back in and he said yes. I started to take the ball off and he told me he would do it because my hands weren't clean and his were. He was really nice.

It's been 4 months and it's not going too good. It started to reject a little bit because the barbell was too short for it. Stupid me decided to change it after only one month. That wasn't good. They told me to wash it once a day with satin and soak it with sea salt water. That made my skin itch and burn so they told me to use saline solution. That made my skin turn like a purplish color. So I decided to stop that. I've asked several piercers what's wrong with it. They said it's fine and that it takes longer to heal than a normal navel piercing because it's a surface piercing and because a piercing heals faster with a hoop. It's a little bit crooked because of it rejecting and it's starting to turn to the side. I have to keep pushing it to the center. I'm hoping it's completely healed by the end of this year because I'm getting tired of this ring. Other than that I'm pretty pleased with my piercings. I'm not allowed to get any more piercings so I'm going to get a tattoo in a few months.

To anyone who wants to get this piercing, I say go for it. It's totally worth it. It looks great and I don't think it's one of the more popular piercings. It looks great, especially if you already have your bellybutton pierced.
