This piecing was somewhat random, when I was younger I had a lot of piercing's, but due to circumstances beyond my own control they were taken out. When I got this piercing, I only had one other, a standard navel, but since I've got a few more additions.
At A Glance Author jenni Contact jenni@bme.anon When Six months ago Artist Liana Studio Cosmic Tattoo Location Colchester It started on a mad hot day, and I was out with my new boyfriend, we'd just bought a magic 8 ball, and were asking it random questions. So he asks "Should we get a piercing today?" and the reply was "absolutely" and, well it's hard to resist a piercing, especially when fate tells you it's right.
Normally I look into piercing's more and take longer to decide, and do research, but I like to be spontaneous sometimes, and I'd cared for my navel well, &it was healing properly and I'd done research into inverse navels previously and knew that if I had any complications then I had a very good piercer, and a wealth of knowledge from BME.
So, back to the story, off we walked across the town centre down to cosmic tattoo, all the wile debating what would be the best piercing for each of us, for a while I was debating a facial piercing, but still being in school, I didn't think it would be such a great idea, so I settled for my second navel.
We got to the studio, and talked to my piercer for a while, and filled in all of the necessary forms, and paid. My boyfriend went in first to get his nipple pierced, while I waited, as the room is fairly small, so it's difficult, and I thought he could cope on his own.
A few minutes later he came out with a smile, and I was called in. I was talked through the after care procedure, and had my anatomy checked to make sure my body wouldn't reject it, and it was all good! I was marked up with gentian violet, which was a bit hard, as my previous navel had migrated slightly, so was crooked, but the marked all lined up and it looked perfect. I was told to tuck my top under my bra and lay down on the bed (like you'd have in a doctor's office) and my belly button was sprayed with this freeze spray stuff, to numb it, and different things (iodine I think) were put on for cleaning my navel. Finally the clamps were put on, they hurt a little, but I think the freeze spray took the edge off of it a little, and the needle slid through easy. I kept on getting told off for trying to look ¬ laying my head down...but I wanted to see! The plain SS barbell was put in painlessly, and I was done, we did another quick run through of aftercare (do sea salt soaks once a day for as long as it takes, and if there are any complications to just pop in).
So we were off again, for the rest of the day my navel was very red, and kind of sore, especially when it was knocked, but it soon settled down and was healing fine.
A few months later I was with some friends playing football, and the ball was kicked into my stomach, I think it was this that possibly caused complications. My upper navel began to reject, until finally I had to just accept it and take it out. It made my lover navel sore, and now it has a lot of scar tissue, especially around the top hole, which is pink and raised, but it isn't too noticeable, and the scarring from my standard navel has now faded considerably, and although I usually use the LITHA method, I've been doing some vitamin e rubs, to try and help this along.
The experience itself was good, it just always makes me sad to lose a piercing, and now my inverse navel is a little lonely. I'm now considering getting a pair of navel piercing's, so it makes a triangle, as there is still too much scar tissue to have another normal navel piercing, plus I quite like the idea of something more unique and original then the standard glittery navel, everyone and their mum has.
I really love this piercing, the impulsiveness of it meant a lot to me, and although there have been a few complications (the majority of which my own fault, like changing to a ring too soon, made it bleed), but it's been worth every minute of it. It's still not healed, but navels are like that, and I realise that they can take a year or more to heal, but if anything, it's just spurred me onto get more metal. Since this I've got my tongue and both nipples pierced, and hopefully by next week I'll have my own Monroe too!
