I had been looking about on BME for a while when I had decided it was about time to get another piercing but I wasn't sure what to get. In the end, I had decided on a tongue piercing, It looks nice and seems easy to take care of but when I got into town and actually thought about the piercing, I had decided that maybe I had best wait until I had moved out, because It would be a piercing that my mum would hate, I am 18 but the last thing I needed was her being annoyed at me. And I didn't want something that would be in her face all the time so I had to think of something else, and that's when I remembered the piercing I have wanted. I always wanted to have a navel project, top, bottom and both sides. Now I didn't have enough money to get all of these but I thought I might as well go for it and at least get the bottom for now.

The first time I had my navel pierced at the top years ago, I had found it pretty painful, so this time I was really scared and expecting a lot of pain. I went to my usual piercer, signed the papers, did all the stuff that I usually do like watch the new needle come out of the packet and chose my barbell. I was really nervous at this point, I stood in front of him as he marked the line, and I prayed that it would be straight because it would be really obvious if it wasn't as it would look off compared to the top one. Well it was marked perfectly, I took out the top navel bar so that it wouldn't get in the way when I was being pierced and then I lay down.
I kept stopping it from happening because I really did panic, I had the freeze spray put on, even though I know that it really doesn't work that well, it just feels a bit better knowing that you tried to prevent it from being as painful. Then I just went for it, biting on my fingers, I was so nervous and convinced it was going to kill me. It was clamped, then the needle put through, and then finally the barbell went through, with the slightly larger ball actually in my navel. It wasn't sore! I was pretty surprised, it was like having a blood sample taken, just a quick sting, I almost couldn't believe that it was over. I don't know if this lack of pain came from lying down, because for the top I stood up, or if the bottom is less sore, or maybe I am remembering the horrible pain that was my nipple piercing, which compared to the navel was...well it was very sore. Either way it felt fine, it was perfectly straight and it never bled at all! I was pretty impressed, it looked pretty and I loved right away.
As I had already taken out the bar from the top of my navel later I replaced this (I had started to panic that it might close up even though it's been a few years). That night it felt fine, but I was feeling a bit nervous about it being caught, looking at the piercing it is more exposed really because the ball bellow the navel itself, so in a way it is more likely to catch on belts, I was convinced this wouldn't happen because I have never seen anyone in the world who wears trousers and belts as low as me, yet when I sat down the belt caught it, not badly at all but it tapped it so you must be careful. That night I was lying in bed, I forgot what it is like not to be able to properly lie on your stomach, but it felt fine, though when I woke up In the morning I realised I must have knocked it because it did bleed slightly, but apart from that it has been really fine. I have put a twisty hoop in the top hole because I feel doesn't irritate the bottom barbell which before was touching the top one. I am really glad I got it done, it feels (like after most my piercings) that it must have been weird before not to have a piece of metal there. I am really looking forward to getting the sides done next and hopefully, this will heal alright.
I would encourage anyone to get this piercing; it is a much more interesting twist on the standard navel. I don't know too many people that have it, and I am looking forward to showing it off.
