It was my birthday on Sunday 24th April, and all I wanted to have was my belly button pierced, so my dad agreed to let me have it done. My mum, however, said that she wanted nothing to do with it even if it got infected and I had to go to the hospital. My dad later found out that he couldn't take me as he was working, therefore he had to persuade my mum to take me and she thankfully agreed to take me as I wanted it done so much.

It came to Tuesday afternoon and I was so nervous as my mum was going to take me to Ackers in Leigh as soon as I got home from school. That day at school I was so excited. I don't think there was anyone in my year that didn't know I was getting my belly pierced as I had been going on about it all day. I can't believe that no one told me to shut up! I came home, got changed and went straight to Ackers.

I don't know who was more nervous as we got out of the car, me or my mum? I was starting to get butterflies at this time. As I walked in with my legs and hands shaking like jelly, I was greeted by a man who asked what I wanted pierced or tattooed. I asked him if I could have my belly button pierced. He showed me a variety of belly bars to choose from and once I had chosen he went to a back room and handed it to another man so he could sterilize it.

He then came out and asked me and my mum to sign a consent form. After we did that the man came out again and led me to the other room.

I was told to sit down it what looked like a dentist chair. The man then moved the chair higher up so it was at the right position for him to pierce my navel at. He then cleaned my stomach. He asked me to get of the chair so that he could mark out where the bar was going to go. All the way through this I was asking 'does it hurt, please tell me the truth does it hurt?'

I then was sat back down on the chair where I was told to lie straight and as still as possible. He clamped my belly button and sprayed some freezing spray onto the area where the bar was going to go. I asked him what was the worst bit and he replied with 'this is the worst bit, I am going to tighten the clamp which will numb the stomach more' he then said 'seeing as your so nervous I will do it quick'

I was then starting to feel more relaxed. He told me that the freezing spray would start to work within a minute. Before the minute was over he started to lower the chair, I was confused. I looked down at my stomach and saw a bandage over my belly button. I hadn't felt a thing!

He then explained to me and my mum that we needed to buy some surgical spirits and liquid savlon to clean it with 4 times a day.

Anyone that is considering getting their belly button pierced me would highly recommend going to Ackers in Leigh. I felt very welcome and was treated with respect. The staff were very friendly and chatty! Don't listen to anyone that says it hurts as I said before I didn't feel a thing. I have now had it done for about an hour and the only pain I can feel is when I pull the bandage off as the sticky bit is sticking to my skin like any plaster would. Don't let anyone talk you out of it. It isn't just pain free, it is also very stylish. All the latest celebrities and stars have got it done!!! There are a variety of bars to choose from so don't worry about whether it will go with your outfit or not!

All my friends are totally jealous and are now considering getting it done themselves. I have only had t done for an hour and I have phoned all my friends and told them how much I thought it was going to hurt to how much it didn't hurt. I am very pleased with my piercing and if I ever wanted a tattoo or any other piercing I am definitely going to go to Ackers in Leigh!

Ackers is situated at the bottom end of Railway Road, in Leigh, it is on a one way street, but don't be put off by this. Once you get there it is well worth it!!!!
