Ok, I'm starting to feel like this is a routine thing for me. I've had my belly button pierced four times now. The first was done by my friend, Jesse Music. At the time, he had his own shop and did a great job. However, after about a year, it decided to migrate, so I ended up taking it out. Strike one. Almost a year passed before I decided to get it repierced. My husband and I were living in Florida, and found a cute little shop close to Pensacola. I can't remember the name of it, but it was super-clean, and the guys who worked there were fantastic. I got it done there, and not long afterward we moved back to Cincinnati. That's the only time I had a captive bead ring put in instead of a curved barbell, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not. The piercing was doing great until I got a new piece of jewelry. Apparently, my body didn't like it because again it started to migrate. Strike two.

He's a fabulous artist, and I have to recommend him highly to anyone looking for great work. He's done several of my tattoos, and they're all beautiful. Anyway, I asked Mike to pierce my belly button for me again. Mike is a great piercer. Very thorough with what he does. He agreed and after looking at it, repierced me. He pierced it pretty deep, and I thought maybe that would keep it from moving. No such luck. Not long afterwards, the migration started again. It didn't go far, but it was enough to annoy me. Strike three.
Last week, I dropped in at Cincinnati Tattoo to see their new location. It had been a while since I had stopped in, and I was hoping Mike would be there to repierce me. It was New Year's Day, and apparently he had been out partying all night the night before. He wasn't there, and Jesse told me he probably wouldn't be in. Jake, however, was there, and since he's the head piercer, I asked him to do it for me. I told him what had happened before, and that I had taken the last one out about two weeks earlier. He said that normally he would advise you to wait at least four to six weeks before getting it redone, but after looking at it he said it would be fine. There's a bit of scar tissue, and he said I would probably feel it. I wasn't the least bit nervous, having had it done so many times before.
He took me into the piercing room, cleaned the area, had me stand in front of him, and marked me. I looked in the mirror and agreed on the spot. I hopped back up in the chair and watched him set everything up. Why does the needle look so huge right before you're getting pierced? I had my nostril done last summer and that needle looked HUGE! Jake took the clamps out and applied them to the appropriate spot, then reached back for the needle. He told me to take a deep breath and when I let it out he pierced me. Like I said, I guess I've had it done so many times it just doesn't really hurt. It was barely more than a pinch. I had to keep myself from laughing because it was really nothing. He asked if I was ok, and I told him I was perfectly fine. He threaded the curved barbell in and tightened up the top ball. Wa-la! All finished. I paid and headed out to run the rest of my errands. I like the feeling of just having had something done and then going shopping. It's my little secret from the world.
I have to admit that I was a little surprised to see a bit of dried blood around it when I got home, but have had no problems. It's not even sore. It looks like it's staying in the right spot, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. If it migrates this time, I'm just going to leave it wherever it decides to stay. It never rejects, just moves to the left. I love it, though, so it's staying regardless.
I know a navel piercing is a pretty common piercing, but it's a great one to have. If you live in the Cincinnati area and want any piercings done, go see Jake. He's awesome! They moved to a better location on Glenway Ave, and have a lot more room. I would definitely recommend anyone there to anybody. Jake did such a great job for me, I think I'll get my nipples done next...:)
