Ok, I had wanted my belly button pierced for SO long, it isn't even funny....despite the fact that everyone and their mother had one, I still wanted, no, NEEDED to have one. I didn't even bother asking my dad, cause I just knew he would have a cow as soon as I said the word "pierce." So I stupidly tried many times to pierce it myself with sewing needles and alcohol prep pads (very dumb crack-head thing to do). I needed another way to get it pierced...
At A Glance Author Alicia When Six months ago Artist Patrick Studio Below Zero Location Inside the mall... My aunt and uncle are totally cool, and were all for the belly piercing thing. All I had to do was find a place and the cash and they'd take me.Well, me and my friend were at the mall and saw a place called Below Zero. It looked pretty cool, and I asked about getting my belly pierced.I was old enough, and I could easily whip up $50 to get it.I told my aunt & uncle about the place and they agreed. It was all set...
First my uncle was planning to take me one day.So we went to the mall. But we couldn't find the damned place!I called my friend who was with me when I first went into BZ with, and apparently my uncle and I were at the WRONG mall! All the adrenaline pumpin for nothin...
A couple weeks later, I spent the weekend at my aunt and uncle's.So we went to the mall (yes, the right one this time)with my 2 cousins. I was so scared. And 1 of my cousins really made the situation "better" by reminding me how big the needle would be (I have a big needle phobia) and how much it would hurt.We finally got there, and I was shaking so much, I could hardly sign my name on the paper. But thank God...I had to wait a couple hours to get it done cause the piercer, Patrick, was booked...
3:30 came and we went back into BZ. I went into the piercing room, which was a decent-sized,yet kinda small, big, clear, plexi-glass walled room. Patrick was putting on gloves and explaining some last-minute cleaning stuff. Yeah, like I was paying attention! I was too damn scared! He had me stand up and he used a Q-tip thing to apply some brown sticky stuff inside and out of my belly button. Then he had me lay down on the chair (and yes, like in most of the stores you read, it resembled somewhat of a dentist chair), and marked me. He told me to lay all the way back, and I wanted to watch him do it, but I couldn't...
He cleaned it with an alcohol prep pad and cleaned the brand new needle.I was so freakin scared at this point. Plus there were a bunch of people on the outside of the piercing room just staring and cringing. And I was also remembering some dumb lady who gave me a little speech on getting my belly pierced; she was like "Oh yeah, you gotta think about this a lot. Cause if you have kids you have to take it out and it could get infected and it's gonna hurt getting it pierced SO much." and I was thinking "gee, thanks lady!" So I was terrified at this point...
He finally said to just relax and stay laying down. When I was least expecting it, he randomly shoved the needle through (yeah, I know it's a horrible word if you wanna get it done, but the faster, the more painless),after he clamped it. Then he slipped in my pretty pink and silver barbell and I was all set!I was so happy!Everytime we'd pass a window on a car or mirror, I'd proudly lift up my shirt. That's where I got the nickname "Belly Flasher" from my aunt...
And on the drive home, the cousin who was making me so paranoid in the beginning, claimed me the "Bravest Person in The Family" for getting a 14g needle pushed through my belly button. It was a good experience. And sorry it was so long, but gotta have details. Ph, and let me tell you, if you're gonna get it pierced, you REALLY need to clean it like you're supposed to. Failure to do that, will result in a pretty damn ugly piercing. Also, do not go swimming before 8 weeks after getting your belly button pierced. I wasn't supposed to, but it was a hot summer day, and I couldn't resist. But I got lucky and didn't get an infected from the damn chlorine. But it doesn't mean you won't. So just listen to the piercers, ok? Well, hope you enjoyed my "book." And be careful when chosing a studio to get it done at, k? Also, make sure you clean it right or else you're in store for an ugly infection. So good luck, and remember: There are ways around getting piercings if your parents reject them!!!
