Hey my name's Toya and I just got my belly button pierced about a month ago. I do dancing, but I only do jazz. I'm pretty good at it though. I also do Tae Kwon Do. Now that's my specialty. I'm black tip now, which is the belt before black belt. But I was brown belt when I got pierced, which is two belts before black belt. Well it started off I was listening to Savage Garden on my computer. Chained to You to be exact. I got the urge to get a piercing, so I started researching. I've only ever had my ear lobes done once, but I could tell this was what I wanted. I came across belly button piercings, and instantly fell in love. Now I'm not one of those teenage girls who are Brittany Spears wannabee's. I decided this out of my own accord. I mentioned it to my friends, and they all tried to talk me out of it. But that didn't really work on me, well because I'm writing this. I thought about it for a week and I still really desperately wanted it done.

Now it was time to convince my parents. I had been really sick before so I had to get a lot of blood tests done, to make sure the medicine was working. And on top of that I had to get my wisdom teeth out. I just blatantly said no, so Dad decided to bribe me. I could get anything I really wanted, as long as I went through with the blood tests and getting my wisdom teeth out. It was at this stage I realised that I could get my belly button pierced. I asked him and he said I'll talk to your mother.

Now Mum had no problem with me getting this done. So she said yes, and Dad said yes just so long as he doesn't have to take me. The one problem was that Mum had been sick on hospital for a week and had just gotten home, and needed plenty of bed rest. The next day I got home from school and mum had made an appointment for me to get my belly button pierced on Thursday at 2. I was on exam block so that was perfectly ok. I kinda started to freak out that I was actually going through with it, and all my friends started to tell me horror stories about rings getting ripped out and stuff. Just don't listen to them, that's only for people who go to dodgy places and don't clean their piercing.

I somehow managed to sit through all of my exams and did really well. It turns out that I duxed Maths B, Maths C, Physics and Chemistry. Yeah all my friends call me a smart ass. Ok...I'll skip to the day of the piercing, Thursday.

Thursday comes and I go off to my hair dresser's to get my regrowth dyed out and my hair trimmed. Those goes all well, then me and mum head off to the city and do some serious shopping. I think in total we were carrying close to 20 bags by the end of the day. And I stick all the tiny bags into the big bags as well. We manage to climb the stairs to the piercing studio. I think I counted them to be 132. I recommend The Piercing Shop to anyone who lives around the Brisbane area, and my 1 word of advice is be prepared to climb some stairs. I get up their and I tell them I have an appointment for my belly button. The (hot) man at the counter takes me into a room to measure my stomach, then sends me back down those stairs to pick out a ring or barbell. This place is great and lets you choose either. If I counted right that means I've walked a total of 264 stairs so far. I pick out a 18 caret gold banana bar with a light blue stone in the bottom and am sent back upstairs. Total stair count so far is 396. I cursed the whole way back.

Ok so I give my barbell to the man and he goes off and auto-claves it to make it all nice and clean. I sit in the waiting room with Mum looking at some old magazines and pictures of piercings and tattoos. Me and my friend were going to get tattoos at schoolies, and now I know what I'm going to get. The man comes out and call's me back. They don't let anyone come back with you, so I think that's the only bad thing about this place. Wait I forgot, those BLOODY STAIRS. So I got back by myself, and the room's all clean and white. They have these really cool things, like taps that automatically turn on when you stick your hands under the tap. Hehehe. So he gets me to sit on the famous dentist chair thing while he lay out all of his equipment. Then he got me to stand up while he marked me with famous purple ink. That purple ink must travel heaps. After about 10 attempts he finally got the dots in the right spots. So I climb back onto the dentist chair and he pulls out the clamps. He pinches my stomach and I found this had no affect on me what so ever. Then he picked up the needle and said breath out on one, in on two etc...and on five he would pierce me. He stuck the needle through on three. So either I can't count or he did it early. This didn't hurt at all. The next thing I know he's tugging and pulling a bit and I'm finally left with this really cute barbell in my stomach. I walk out and tip the piercer and everything.

Ok my stomach didn't hurt at all on Friday or Saturday or the rest of Thursday. Ironically on Sunday I went to my Tae Kwon Do grading, and because I'm one of the higher ranks it's very physical, so this probably wasn't a good idea. I at least had the sense to put some gauze and cotton wool balls over the top. So that kinda woke my piercing up, and it was sore after that that, but surprisingly nothing major happened. I managed to get my stomach to settle down and so far the rest of the piercing has been fine.

So to anyone who's considering getting a belly button piercing, consider whether you want it, if you do go for it, and whatever you do don't go to a Tae Kwon Do grading with a freshly pierced belly. Have a great time and happy piercings.
