A lot of people tend to say that "you can never only get ONE piercing", and it's true. They become so addictive that after a while you find yourself getting certain piercings that you might have not liked before... they just grown on you really.

The one particular piercing that grew on me was the navel piercing. I never before had even considered one, mainly because it seems as natural as a mouth or a nose now a days, since sooo many people have them, and frankly I prefer facial piercings that compliment a person's desired features. Still, while looking through many pictures and reading stories here on BME I found myself wanting to pierce both top and bottom of my navel. Mind you, it isn't that I wanted to "compliment" anything, for I very seldom feel like wearing something that shows my navel, but I didn't want to do it for "others", but for myself, since I grew to liking the way it looked.
I knew I would only be able to get either the top or the bottom pierced at once, so I went with the top since I wasn't sure of when I'd be able to get the bottom done... safe choice I guess? One thing I never really like are closed navel rings, the hoops. I prefer the straight or slightly curved barbels. So with that in mind I told my mother that I would like to get my navel done for my birthday. She was ok with it, since she was the one who convinced me in the first place. For about 10 months before my birthday I had been begging for other things for the day, but when it came I seemed to have lost interest in pretty much everything.... but I was promised cake after the piercing, so I went :D. My birthday was on the 17th of June, but I only went to get pierced on July 10... my mother's known for her lack of punctuality, so whatever.
I went to the only place I would want to get pierced, Adrenalin Rush. The place is very professional, with great piercing and tattoo artists, surrounded by a clean and totally relaxed atmosphere. I was hoping to get pierced by Anthony, since he was the who had done my nostril the previous year and I was very pleased with it... plus, he was nice and actually cared about who he was piercing instead of just wanting to make whatever money he could. After filling in the paper work I was off to one of the two back rooms, familiar to me now, for I'd be there, and still do, whenever Id get the chance, even if just to hang out. As I looked at the jewelry, I couldn't seem to find the one I had my heart set on, a black chrome curved barbel, to kind of match the black 16 gauge hoops in have in my ears. So I settled for a silver barbel with a black jewel. I though, "I can always change it later".
I have a high tolerance for pain and have never been nervous while getting pierced, and this time was no different. As I stood next to the table, Anthony cleaned my navel and marked where the needle would be going in through. I approved it and he told me to lay down. At the time I have to say, I did have a lone little butterfly in my stomach since I couldn't see what he was doing for he was in front of me face, but it soon drowned in the acid and stopped fluttering. He checked the mark and started taking the new needles out and cleaning everything. After he put on a new pair of gloves I knew he was about to do it. He didn't say "ok" or count to 3, which was good. He just waited until I was breathing right and went for it. I didn't feel the needle go it, but then heard a "pop" sound when it came out the other side. It didn't hurt, but the sound was weird. I stood up and checked as he told me how to take care of it and everything.
Only after I stood up did I realize some people had come in and were watching me. It was great to see the girl squirm as her boyfriend asked her "Are you sure you wanna do that?" while laughing. Lol.
I told Anthony I'd be back soon for more, thinking to myself how I've become a "junkie" with his own needles. As I said, piercing is very addictive, which is why in the beginning of September I will be going back to get my septum done and in October for my first tattoo, which a friend of mine is drawing for me... a fairy with huge wings for my lower back. The only other mods after those that I have in mind are to get the bottom of my navel done, an industrial, my lip and wings either tattooed of cut into my back. However, I lust after "corseting" by back, which I probably will in place of the wings ;).
I'll be sure to write about all further mods soon, accompanied by pics, and as always, I encourage all of those who are wanting to get their navels, or pretty much anywhere else done, for piercings just have a wonderful way of making you feel even better in your skin, so go for it!!
