Hello you all. I am just 15 years old and already I have had my navel pierced twice. Yes, twice. My parents are very strict on the rules of the house, but when I turned 15 I asked for my navel pierced and to my surprise my parents said yes. I didn't think they would because they wouldn't let my brother who is two years older than me (17) get his tongue pierced.

Anyways, I knew a few friends who had theirs pierced at a place called InkSlingers in Waterford, Michigan. I called the place up and talked to a female worker there and she said that the piercing were 55$ and she seemed very nice. The next day I headed out to Inkslingers and I had to show my ID and my mom had to show hers. The owner talked about aftercare and what to do and what not to do and so on. I was so excited that I couldn't wait. I decided to go with a barbell just because I thought it looked cuter than the rings (big mistake). So, I sat down and the guy (Jim) pierced me. He wasn't very good. He never once talked to me and I never seen him open any sterile packages (which you should see, its important to know you have sterilized objects going into your body!!).
The anticipation was killing me and I was still nervous about what was going to happen, but I sat back and took deep breaths to relax myself. Two minutes later the piercing was done and the owner took my money and gave me my aftercare spray and I left. I was happy with my navel piercing, but two months later I wouldn't be so happy.
About two months after my piercing was done I got an infection. The pain was excruciating and it hurt me to bend over and sit down. Four months after my piercing, now two months after the infection, my piercing grew out of my body and I was disappointed because I spent all sorts of money on navel rings.
I then decided to wait for my navel to heal and to get it re-done. I was scared though because I thought if they re-pierced into the scar tissue that it might hurt and bleed a lot. I told my friend Julie that I wanted to get it redone and she told me of a place called BLUZ' TATTOOZ & BODY PIERCING also in Waterford, Michigan. As soon as she told me about it I was on the phone talking to the guy.
Even talking on the phone with the guy (Steve) I knew that he was much better. He was really friendly and he closed at 8:00 p.m., but stayed open until 9:30 p.m. just for me. Also on the phone he said that since I was 15 that I needed ID, birth certificate, and my parents ID (something Inkslingers never told me).
So, I went out to BLUZ' TATTOOZ & BODY PIERCING that same night and as soon as I got there the guy was very friendly and was like hey how are you and so on. I was so anxious to get my navel redone, but the papers had to be signed first. He was great! He talked through the papers and even gave me an after care instruction paper that showed me everything to do and how to take care of my piercing and avoid infection (another thing Inkslingers never did). Then it was off to be re-pierced. He made me stand up so he could mark me (something Inkslingers never did either, they had me sit to be marked). Then he had me lying back on this chair (almost like a dentist chair) and he talked to me and even joked with me he had me laughing and smiling and everything. I even got to see him sterilize everything even my ring was packaged so I knew it was sterilized. I was so impressed I thanked him over and over again. He told me so many reasons where Inkslingers went wrong, here are a few: 1. They never showed me sterilization 2. They marked me to shallow 3. They pierced me to shallow 4. They pierced with a barbell (barbells are harder to clean than rings, rings are circular so they are easier to turn to get the bacteria out, where barbells you can't turn) and 5. They just weren't friendly. I would recommend you get a ring for your first body jewelry, I know its not cute but it keeps bacteria out and is so much easier to clean... I'd rather be infection free than cute, just think in 3-6 months you can change it to something cute.
I strongly recommend getting your navel pierce and getting it pierced is nothing. It didn't even hurt the second time and I had scar tissue pierced too. I hope this reading helps you ladies out there. But you can't live through my experience you have to live it through yours.
