My experience is something you have probably heard many times before. However, I feel that it is something that can't be said enough, since it is something that kids keep on doing.

While I didn't shove a safety pin through my navel like some kids try to do, I still didn't have it done properly. Please, listen to my story and learn from my mistakes.
I guess I'll start from the beginning of it all. My ex-boyfriend, Dave, was the one who got me into piercings. If it wasn't for him, I probably would think "Eww, nasty!" every time I see a modified person. After Dave told me about BME, my piercing fetish became even stronger. I was even more into it than he was!
After Dave and I broke up, we stayed friends for a while. He had promised me for my birthday that he would pierce anything I wanted with a piercing kit he was ordering off of eBay, which I now realize was not a very good idea. I originally wanted my nostril pierced, but Dave told me the kit was for navel piercings so the gauge was too big. Then, I decided I wanted an off-center lip ring. But, my friends talked me into my standard navel so that I could hide it from my parents easily.
About a month and a half later, he got the kit in. We decided on December 2, the day before I left for Florida, since it was an early release day from school. I was pretty nervous, but I figured I was safe since it was a "professional" kit and he had done some of his own piercings before and they had turned out pretty good. So, I decided to go ahead with it.
When the bell rang for the end of the day at 11:10 AM, I was very excited. I had pretty much told everyone that I had come in contact with that day what I was doing. I told my mom that I was staying after school with some people to just hang out since it wasn't that cold out. She actually bought it. I felt bad after lying to her, since she was just starting to trust me after all the mistakes I had made in the year before. But to me, it was worth it.
Anyways, back to when the bell rang. I walked out to the school lobby to meet my friend Steve-O, who was driving me to and from Dave's house. The night before on the phone, Dave told me that Steve-O had to wait in the car since even though him and Steve-O were best friends, he thought Steve-O and I were an "item"(even though Steve is 6 years older than me, which makes it illegal).
So we pull into Dave's driveway. I go inside and say hi to his girlfriend and his mom. We go into his bedroom and he starts to get things set up. He pulls out the clamps and the jewelry. He gets some pliers to open up the CBR and then gets the alcohol wipes out. At this point, Dave's mom invited Steve-O inside and he is in the living room. Dave's girlfriend, Natassia, is in the room with us to hold my hand, and Dave's brother Justin(who is in my grade in school) is in the doorway watching. Ok, this is when we actually get started.
While Dave washes his hands, I take my sweatshirt off and roll up my tee shirt. He comes back in with some rubber gloves. Then he tells me to stand up so he can clamp me. That didn't work too well. He couldn't get the clamps to stay on my very well, which I assume is a mix of the fact that I'm a bit over weight and that he didn't really know what he was doing. So he tell me to lay back down, and just leaves the clamps half hanging off of me. He wipes down my stomach with the alcohol wipes and takes the needle out of the package, probably the only sterile thing in the whole procedure.
Dave tells me that he's gonna pierce me now, so I close my eyes and grab Natassia's hand. I feel a small, sharp pain in my navel. Of course, I let out a little scream since I felt it was necessary. I looked down and saw a lovely needle sticking through my flesh. I was so relieved that it went okay. We had a little trouble getting the jewelry in , but that was about it.
After we were all cleaned up, Dave gave me a band-aid for where he had stabbed me with the needle on my stomach, since he didn't use a cork to catch the needle on the other end.
For aftercare, I was told to wash with Dial soap three times a day. I used some iodine with it, and then started using Bactine. Eventually I found out I should've been using sea salt soaks, but by then it was too late.
Fast forward 4 months. I have a red bump next to the top hole, it's still sore, and it is completely crooked. The pain is so unbearable at times that I can barely move.
After five months, I finally decided to take it out. I had found out that they have a good chance of migrating/rejecting when you get them done at such a young age. Also, I didn't really want a crooked piercing.
That was about a month ago, and it seems to be doing fine. I'll probably get it redone when I'm old enough, but for now I think I'll just leave it alone. I was very lucky that I didn't get a bad infection. Even though I used a proper needle, it still wasn't done under proper conditions, and it wasn't done by a licensed piercer.
Advice: wait until your 18. It might actually be worth it.
