The first time I saw a navel piercing as a young girl, I thought, "I want that !" My parents told me to keep dreaming, because I wasn't getting anything pierced but my ears until I was out of their hands. I wasn't too bummed.

My mom let me get two piercings in my ear, my first when I was seven and my second when I was nine. She then swore those were the only piercings I'd ever have.

The boy I was going out with at the time encouraged her that it was just an accessory, and only seen rarely, and that it wasn't on my face or anything. Eventually, my mom agreed and called Accurate Body Piercing's by Dave. She asked all about the procedure, that sanitation and hazards. A week or so later, I went.

I never thought I'd get the guts to get my navel done. But I always thought it would be awesome. When my mom finally said that I could get it, I was nervous, but took the opportunity and went with her the weekend before school started in summer '03.

We were on the road heading to Accurate Body Piercings by Dave.

After signing the papers and all we went to the place next door to get the notary. I also got sprite because my piercer, Gary told me to. I drank some and we walked back, honestly, I think the fresh air helped. After I talked to Gary some more about piercings and other stuff, we went back into the small room where he showed me the instruments and what we'd be doing.

{ I know when reading these things, you can doubt what the writer says, I know I did. But I'm being honest. Before I got pierced I constantly read navel piercing experiments. I thought that maybe it didn't hurt for them, but it would most definitely hurt for me. I'll admit before this piercing I was a major whimp with needles and shots and all. but Now, I do sanitary self-piercings! I take care of the self-piercings I have done, and I donot recommend it, because it could lead to infection. }

He told me to sit down as he went over the procedure. I was nervous and he could tell. He had a million piercings, well thats how it seemed. He was tall, large, black, and had three piercings in his tongue alone. He calmed me down and told me to relax and we talked about music. Soon enough, he marked me with a toothpick and ink after he cleaned the area. He laid me down after I checked the alignment of the mark.

He put on the clamp, and, honestly, that hurt the worst. It was pinching the skin, and I covered my eyes as I held my moms hand. I was whimpering and whining and he kept calling me a howling wolf! I finally asked when he was going to put the needle in and he said it was done, he was putting the jewelry in. I felt him twist the ball, it didn't hurt at all, but it was a disturbing feeling, I guess. I was quite surprised. It didn't hurt one bit, I thought I would bleed and all of this stuff I kept telling myself.

I had gotten a standard barbell with a diamond in the top small ball and in the bottom larger ball. I went to Eckerds and got Bactine for my belly button to keep it clean. I was also using sea salts that I bought at the piercing parlor.

After the time needed for healing passed I went back to get it changed.

I had previously ordered a belly ring from them, with a star as the screw ball, and two dangle stars. People were getting tattoos, getting piercings and all, and I felt well adapted.

I laid down and he put it in quickly, and I had my little panic. But it was all good. I've changed it since, and I'm really happy with it.

If you have the permission/authority to do it and you want to, don't think twice, it's a quick and easy procedure, I promise ! I would never trust someone who wrote these things, and now I am one of them ! It's a very intimidating process and procedure if you are scared already, I will tell you that. It isn't scary unless you make it that way. The best scenario is to go in there with your head high, ready, and prepared, with a positive and optimistic attitude. Don't worry, just be happy that you've got the balls to at least go to get it done ! You just need to be brave and positive.

Before I end this experience entry, I just want to let anyone who's considering a navel piercing, to know that it is almost way too worth it. Go for it.

Good Luck.
