Do you remember back when there was no such thing as a navel piercing being acceptable?! When they were not common and people that had them were "freaks"? I've wanted my belly button pierced since then. I was 8 when I first wanted one, but I never dared say anything to my parents, they were very against it. About 6 years later, when I was 14, I told my dad that I wanted my belly button pierced; he said I had to talk to my mother. That was a no. So I bugged my mom for a year and a half before she finally said yes. I'm very persuasive when I want something.

I didn't want my belly button pierced because everyone else was getting it done; I wanted it to show off my dedication to myself. I used to weigh 163 at my most, and I'm only 5'3! So I was very much over weight, but I took care of myself, and watched what I ate, and now I only weigh 119. I did it all without ever having an eating disorder, or getting sick, or stopping eating. I did it with a diet, and exercise, and dedication. So I wanted to get it pierced for me, and to show off that I'm not that overweight little girl anymore, that I'm a fit, mature, young woman.

About three weeks ago I was talking to my mother and she brought up my birthday, and I told her that for my birthday I wanted my belly button pierced. She agreed, but didn't like it. My friend Michelle got hers pierced 5 days after I told her about getting mine done, and we showed it off to my mom which made her like it more. So it was final, my mom was going to let me do it, and pay for it, and I was going to have a pierced belly button.

The day that I was going to go get it done I wasn't really feeling well. I had a little stomach ache, but I figured it was due to my candy-eating party last night! So I went anyways. I picked up one of my best friends Kristinna and we were off to the studio. Once we got there Doc greeted us with a friendly smile and told us that there was about a 45 minute wait. My mom filled out the paperwork, gave me the money, and went outside with my step dad Jimmy. Kristinna and I sat in the waiting room talking, while he finished a ladies tattoo and pierced someone else's belly button. He had me pick out a barbell, and I picked the light blue one. Kristinna was trying to make me nervous, and I was.

He took us into the little room and I tucked my shirt into my bra like someone else had done. He looked at my stomach and told me that I had a perfect belly button to get it done, and thought I had it done before! He cleaned it off, and marked it. I looked at the markings and thought it was great. He had me lay down on this little table, and he took out the needle, I was freaking out. Kristinna was holding my hand and laughing at me, good best friend huh? So he put a rubber band around the clamp, and placed it in the spots. People say that that is the worst part well I'm not people. I didn't even think it hurt that much. Kristinna was more excited then me, because she got to see it. He told me to take a deep breath in, and then let it out slowly. I did, and he put the needle through. I remember Kristinna saying, "Wow, that's soo cool. There's a needle in your stomach Krissas." That must have been entertainment right there. He put the jewelry in, which was uncomfortable, and I got up. It was bleeding, and I was being a blonde and I said, "Why is it bleeding?" he simply responded, "I just put a hole in your belly button sweetheart." I laughed, thanked him, and left.

As soon as I got to the car I was getting really dizzy and lightheaded. I started feeling really hot and sick. I couldn't breathe very well and I felt sick. We had to pull over because I thought that I was going to throw up, and Kristinna and Jimmy went into the store and bought me a 7up, and I felt much better. I was pretty much shocked. I called my sister and talked to her about it because she has her clitoris hood pierced, so I figured she'd know about cleaning it better then I did. I went to the store and got Dial Anti-Bacterial soap, and some suckers, because I wanted them! I went home and took a shower and cleaned it for the first time, which hurt.

It's only been 5 days since I've had my piercing, but it's healing really well. There isn't any "crust" or "discharge" and it only hurts when I accidentally bump it, which happens a lot. My boyfriend thinks it looks really good, and I think it's great. I am so glad that I got it, and a lot of people that I know think it looks really great and are really proud of me for taking care of myself enough for it to look good. Piercings can be addictive, and I'm thinking about getting my tongue pierced. I'm defiantly going to be there when Kristinna gets her navel pierced, so I can scare her and tease her like she did to me. To anyone out there that wants to get his or her belly button pierced, DO IT! But do it for YOU and not for anyone else. It doesn't hurt much; it's just a little tender for a while. Take care of it and properly wash it, and you'll be fine! Feel free to IM me or Email me if you have any questions or comments!
