My best friend and I had wanted to get our belly buttons pierced for a very long time. However, we never had the courage to get it until now. We researched navel piercings all over the internet and we went around Brampton looking for a clean place that took interest in answering our questions and concerns. The reason we were so scared was because we thought it was going to be extremely painful and did not have the courage to go through that pain. After asking others for their opinions and asking those who already had their navels pierced we finally got the courage to go.

The place that my friend and I went to was Art Addictions, located on Queen Street, in Brampton. It was a tiny shop but the people in there were wonderful. Many of my friends had gone their before and when I checked it out for myself I was impressed. The reason I was impressed was because the place was extremely clean and the people inside were incredibly nice. The lady at the front counter helped us pick barbells and helped to calm our nerves. We asked for general pros and cons between a barbell and a hoop and she told us that a barbell is less likely to get caught in things and is just as simple to clean. My friend and I decided on a barbell. We both got the same ones except they had different rhinestones. The lady at the counter also told us that it was one of the easiest piercings and that most people come out of the piercing happy. She even explained her own navel piercing experience with us and told us that we would be pleased. This calmed my friend and I dow n tremendously.

We signed all the papers and gave her our id. They charged $60 for the piercing and for the barbell we choose. Soon after, Dianne, the piercer came out and took us into a tiny room in the back. She explained the procedure to us and helped calm our nerves as well. I went first and my best friend watched.

Dianne began the procedure by cleaning my belly button with iodine. She marked a dot as to where the needle was going to go through. She had me sit in a chair that resembled a dentist chair. As I was laid back she clamped the skin and lined up the needle. She then told me to take a breath in. She put the needle through, which felt like a quick pinch. After that, she told me I was done! I was like huh? what about the jewelry...she told she had already put it in. The piercing happened so fast and only felt like a small pinch. I was shocked. I looked up at my best friend and told her it was nothing. Dianne showed me that she destroyed the needle and disposed of it in a sharps container. My best friend had hers done and she felt the exact same way as me after her belly was pierced. Again, Dianne took the needle and destroyed it in front of us and put it into a sharps container. Afterwards, my best friend and I got up and looked into the mirror. Our piercings looked so nice and we were extremely pleased. Dianne went over cleaning instructions. We were told to get epsom salts, mecca ointment and q tips. She told us to clean our piercing twice a day with a mild soap such as Dove or Ivory. She said that if there was any crusties that we should clean them with a clean qtip and put a thin layer of the mecca ointment around the top hole of the piercing. At night time, we had to take the epsom salts and soak our piercing in that for five minutes and then put mecca ointment on again before we went to bed.

In all honesty, a belly button piercing hurts a lot less than getting your ears pierced. I have three piercings in each ear and they hurt far more than my belly button. A belly button piercing is a small pinch and thats all you feel. It was a little sore afterwards, but with any piercing that is expected. My friend and I clean our piercing religiously to avoid infection. We are extremely pleased with the piercing.

Art Addictions is a great place to go for piercings since they are friendly. Dianne even gave us her phone number and email address and told us if we had any questions or concerns afterwards we could either call her, email her or come in to see her. Art Addictions made this experience very worthwhile. I am glad I have my belly button pierced since it looks amazing!
