I'll start out telling you that I got my navel pierced about two years ago. I had been begging my parents to let me get it done since I was 12 years old. Of course, every time, they quickly answered "no!" I was out of luck and I knew it. They would never let me get it done. So I decided to try to do it myself. I was about 13 years old then.

The day I chose to do it, I had gotten in yet another argument with my step-dad, Lewis. In the past, I had always done something harmful to myself to make him realize how much he needed me around. It also allowed me to get whatever I wanted for the next week or so. I had bought a ring at the mall so I could put it in right after I poked the needle through. I actually wasn't scared at all.

Later on that night, I got all of my materials together in my room. Some ice to numb the area, my sewing needle, and the ring I had bought. I led down on my bed and propped my head up just enough to see where I would pierce myself.

I numbed the area and started to poke in with the needle. It didn't hurt at first, but I wasn't getting anywhere. Talk about tough skin! I had to stop after a few minutes because the needle kept slipping out of my hand. After a while, I wasn't numb anymore.

I tried over and over for about an hour until my mom walked in and saw what I was doing. She worried and took everything away from me, only to give it back the next day and try herself. She decided that she didn't want me to pierce it, so she would!

About a week later, she put me on the bed and numbed my whole stomach! It was a little odd, but I'm glad she did it. She ended up having the shakes again and poked me several places, drawing a little blood all around my navel. I was afraid of her trying it again, so I told her to stop and we'd try another time.

She came up to me the day after with a suggestion. She wanted to go buy a needle used for sewing through leather so she could get it through my skin. The thought petrified me out and I told her of how she got the shakes. I actually told her that I didn't want it bad enough to have her do it.

I waited about a year before we even spoke about it again. I was so afraid that she would pull out the needle and just stab me over and over trying to get it right. Weird paranoia, but true. I couldn't help but feel really sad about not having it done, I had been so close before.

She knew I was really upset and decided that for my sister's birthday, I would get it done at a local tattoo parlor. She made the appointment and took me out of school early. When we drove up to the parlor, I was thinking that she would make me sit there and watch someone else get it done, then yell at me saying that I couldn't have it until I was 18.

I followed her in. The place was really clean and smelt like latex gloves. It made me laugh because it was nothing like the things you see in movies, not dirty at all. There wasn't any other people in the shop, only my mom and me.

My mom took me up to Phillip and told me that I was going to get my navel done. I was ecstatic! Finally, I could have that sexy little ring there! I showed the proper ID and was led to he back. I sat down in a really comfortable reclining chair and waited for him to return.

I wasn't scared at all, I wanted to watch the whole thing, and of course I did! He sprayed some extremely cold water around my navel and it turned red right away. I must have had a puzzled look on my face because he told me that it was to numb the area.

I watched as he washed his hands, put on the gloves and turned to face me with a needle. When I saw that it was hollow, I got so confused. I never knew that they actually took out skin, I expected it to be like my ears. He set me up and my sister ran out the door, she couldn't watch the needle go in.

I felt it press against my skin and I felt a little sting, but that was all. It was over, now all that was left was getting the jewelry in. He put it up against the end of the needle and then pushed it through like it was nothing. He put the ball in and gave me a bottle of medicine to clean it.

I did listen to him tell me about the aftercare, but apparently I didn't allow it to sink into my head. I changed my ring after one month and stopped using the solution. Of course it got infected and I started to clean it more often and told no one about it.

To make the rest of the story short, it took about 1 and a half years to fully heal and now it actually looks great! I learned from my friend (recently) that I shouldn't really change it as much as I do (once a week normally).

Morals: Don't try to do it yourself and take care of it!

I highly recommend this! ^.~ Its so cute!
