Okay, well it all started about 2 years ago. It was February 2002. I had always wanted my belly button pierced, but my mom always said no. So I just kept doing my research and trying to find new ways to convince her to let me get it done... but still she insisted on telling me no. So I gave up on asking her and went to my dad's side. Since my parents were divorced I thought why not ask my step mom, she had her navel pierced so I figured she would say yes. Of course I was right. She told me that she had to talk it over with my dad and make sure it was okay with him. He said it was fine. But, then they asked me if it was okay with my mom.... And so I went to my mom and asked her again, this time she gave in but under certain circumstances. I was not to ask her to buy me jewelry for it, or to flaunt it around her, or if something went wrong I was not to go crying to her. I promised I would not and she said ok. Now it was definite I was getting the belly jewel I had wanted for so lo ng, or was I?

Later that day my step mom came and picked me up. She said we would go look at a few places to make sure they were clean and then choose one to get it done at. I was so excited, and a little nervous. We finally decided on a place Big City Tattoo & Piercing. We went in and went to the counter and told them what I wanted and then they said "Are you 18 or older?" I said no, and they told me I had to get some paper work filled out and notarized. Well, since my step mom is not a legal guardian and since my father was at work I could not get my piercing done. My step mom told me that she would give my dad the paper work and he would fill it out and get it notarized at his work and then we would go right after school the next day.

As you can imagine that school day seemed to drag on forever. Finally school was over and I went home, I was expecting my step mom to take me since that was the plan before. But to my surprise my dad was going to take me. That made everything a little more nerve racking, since my dad has a tendency to make everything a joke and talk to every one (you will understand why that adds to my nerves in a minute). Any ways my dad took me to the tattoo place and we went in and singed some paper stating that they were not responsible for anything that goes wrong so on and so forth. Then they told me that there would be a wait since the only piercer was at lunch. I am thinking great, it seemed like everything was going to keep me from getting this done. I began to get more nervous the longer I sat there. Then this guy walks in, tattoo covered and pierced everywhere, and his name was Pork Chop. This was the man who was going to pierce me. Well he called us in his room and we went back t here, I was starting to panic a little. Then he explained to me what was going to happen. He told me to lie down on the table, so I did and he cleaned the area and then he told me to stand up, so I did. He then marked the top hole and bottom hole with a purple marker and then he told me to lie back down and relax. Well, this is when my dad's friendliness begins to make me more nervous. The piercer is into motorcycles and there was a little TV in the room with a video of motorcycles playing, so my dad begins to talk to the guy about that, and the piercer is getting more and more into the conversation with my dad, and I am laying on the table with these clamp things on my belly button, while they continue to talk. I am about to change my mind and then they finally stop talking. The guy tells me to take a deep breath. I took the deepest breath ever and clenched the chair. To my surprise it did not hurt that bad at all. It felt like a little prick. I looked down and saw this 3- inch needle sticking out of my belly button. Then he put the ring in a nd screwed the ball on and I was done. We paid and left. It did not start to hurt until I got outside I guess the initial shock numbness had warn off, and now I was feeling how tender it really was.

My dad then took me to the store to get some anti-bacterial soap, and then took me home. I cleaned it every day and did the whole warm salt-water thing as well. I took good care of it and was counting down the days till I could change it. Well for some reason I thought you could change it after 4-6 weeks.... Well to my later surprise I found out it was suppose to be 4-6 months oops. But after 5 weeks I changed it (do not do that, wait for the proper time to elapse before you change it) and put my pretty pink striped barbell in. I never had any problems at all with my navel. Everyone I know that had theirs done, got it infected some how, or had a red bump around the top hole. But not me, mine was a little pink around the top hole during the first week but that was the only time it was like that. I guess I just heal well or something. But now 2 years later I cant imagine my belly button with out a piercing. I cant stand having it out either it just looks to plain and naked with out a jewel in it. But I have an urge to pierce again, so in 25 days on my 18th birthday I am heading back down to Big City Tattoo and I am getting an inverse navel piercing, I cant wait! Well, all I can say is if you have to choose between not getting your belly button pierced and getting it done I suggest you do it, you wont regret it, and oh yea guys love them. Wink.
