Well, it was about 3 years ago, that I decided I wanted to get my belly button pierced. Ironically enough, I had no ear piercings. I had gotten them pierced 4 times before and they had gotten infected each time. (I'm good now though I have 9 in my ears =D teehee) My friend had gotten her cartilage pierced and I thought it was so cool. Now I wanted something just as cool.

My mom had always told me that a belly ring would look cool, and she always told me I should do it. I was in 7th grade; I think I was like 12. (My b-day's in August). So naturally, my dad was against it. That didn't faze my mom though. She approved.

We researched very little, I mostly from BME. I let her read some stories with me and we looked at pictures. I attended a very small middle school, so no one else had it. When I told all my friends what I was planning on doing they said it was cool. Then they told me how lucky I was to have such a rad mom.

So, back to the researching part, we knew of a local parlor, Big Joe and Sons, it's a reputable place, and everyone knows of it. Plus, it was within walking distance of our house. (My mom and I enjoy walking.) This was always in the back of our minds.

It came down to which day we should do it. She wanted to wait until the end of the week, I wanted to go Tuesday. (I believe for some reason Monday wasn't good.) So anxiousness filled my whole body, and I simply couldn't wait. I told her I would go into school until 12, then around then she could come pick me up. This seemed smart because of two reasons, 1. I miss school; 2. It wouldn't be packed on a weekday, within opening hour. She agreed. It's very easy to convince my mom.

So it was settled. I went into school that Tuesday sometime in May, and I was a mess the whole day. Well, not a mess, just, impatient. Everyone knew why I was leaving, and everyone was watching the clock tick, along with me.

So finally, around 11:45, my mom came to the school to get me. She told the school I had an, "appointment." That's my mom for ya. So we walk from the school straight down to Mamaroneck Ave. (Our Downtown) It's maybe a 10-15 minute walk, probably less.

So we walk past all the stores, Payless, a Smoothie Place, Nicky's, I didn't know the exact location because we hadn't been there before so every store we passed could have held Big Joe's behind it. Turns out after Cell Shop... There it was. Wow. Finally. Wow, I'm a little shakey but I won't tell mom, Wow... it's closed.

11:55. Damn, why do stores have to be so exact? It's practically 12. So, then finally the store opens. We step in. It's really clean. The walls are plastered with tattoos, and there are huge frames of tattoo designs. One wall contains newspaper cuttings, "Tattoos and Piercings Unsafe?" The front counter containing mostly belly rings, also, Plugs, and large gauge hoops. It was sparkling. There was a woman with a wifebeater on and two large tattoos on each arm. She turned to us and said, "Navel?" We both replied yes and told us the piercer, Chris would be right with us. He had a very round face. And long dark black hair, tied back in a rubber band. He greeted us.

He said, hello, and we told him we wanted the navel piercing. We had to fill out two sheets of paper. It wasn't as lengthy as some other stories say. My mom had to show her ID, and he had to run it. He asked me for ID too but I didn't have any. He said it was okay. He showed us to a small, clean, white piercing room.

It contained a black dentist-like chair. It had a steel counter next to it. It had a few mirrors, and a counter, with things like, the iodine, cotton balls, etc. He went back into a little room, got gloves and some sealed things. He described to me the entire process.

He asked me to pull up my tank top, unbutton my pants and roll it under. I did so. He asked me to stand so he could mark my navel and the piercing spots. He asked if it was even. I said, I don't know, you're the expert. He laughed. Then he asked me to lay down. I did. He told me everything he was doing, using iodine. Then the clamps. I didn't feel a thing. The he said breathe in twice and out on three. On three I'll pierce.

3, done.

A few seconds later, he said okay, you're done. I replied with a quick, "That's it?" I stood.

He went into detail on how to clean it. Antibacterial Soap, Bactine morning, noon and night. 4-6 Weeks, and I'll be healed.

So now, 3 years later I don't regret the decision. There was a little bit of irritation when my shirt rubbed against it. But that passed quickly. Now, its just a cool thing for my boyfriend to play with and for me to show off.

I highly recommend this piercing as a first to anyone interested. It can be a cute girly thing or even a sporty thing. I'm neither, but that's besides the point.

So in conclusion, do it if you want, it doesn't hurt and it looks nice and will be worth it def in the end. Now I'm working on my mom letting me get my lip pierced. I think she will teeheheheh. Heh, hopefully, I'll get to write about that.
