My name is Nicole and I'm 15 years old. I live in the shitty little town of Taunton, Massachusetts. This is the story of my navel piercing.

All my life I wanted my bellybutton pierced, and my parents would never allow it but they finally let me because my best friend Caitlin had gotten hers a few months before, and I told them that it could be my graduation present, so they agreed.

I was finally getting my piercing. The problem now was just getting the balls to actually do it.

The same day that they had agreed, my dad took me to Action Ink, this place right down the street from where my best friend lives, and we went inside. I was so scared, it was just ridiculous. I looked at all the people in there and they were all fine. And I just remember thinking 'Hold it together LOSER! Look at all these people who aren't tripping out.' So I asked to be pierced, and my dad talked to one of the guys while I looked at all the jewelry. At Action Ink they only pierce navels with captive rings so that it what I was stuck with. The guy said that the piercing guy had the day off and that he would be back the following day. So I got all scared for nothing.

Next, my dad took me to The Laboratory, which is another piercing shop/skate store. So we went in and talked to them. It was dirty in there and it was going to be $75 rather than $35 like Action Ink. We decided to wait until the next day. I would have rather had my best friend Caitlin there anyways. So I was to get pierced tomorrow afternoon.

So the whole day of the piercing I was all nervous because I was scared that it was gonna hurt and I had graduation practice all fucking day, and when I FINALLY got home, my dad was there and I was freekin nervous because he was gonna take me to the piercing place. But anyways, he took my brother because we had to go to the mall afterwards. So we went and picked up Caitlin, because I was going to die if she wasn't there. So we drove up the street to Action Ink. My knees were knocking and like everything was shaky and I was like light-headed like I was gonna pass out.

Cait helped me pick the ring. It's steel, 14 gauge, with a pretty pink ball. Well I still can't decide if it's pink or freaky orange but I'll tell myself that it's pink. So anyways after that, I was sooo nervous and I had to fill out the forms. And the guy was like," Oh I have to wait for the other guy to come back from across the street" so I was like Goodness don't come back. But then he was like "I'm ready for you back there." And I was like AHHHHHHH!!!

But Caitlin came with me and she stood there while I had my nervous breakdown. He told me to lift my shirt and he prepped it and put the mark, then told me to lay down. And I died. Caitlin was holding my hand and I was like dyyying. I just kept trying to tell myself that it wasn't like I was the only one in the world with a pierced navel, like that people have done it before. He clamped it, and I was like Oh My Freekin God.

He pierced it soooo quick. Caitlin was like " It's in now. All he has to do is put in the ring.." and he did it. And that was it. It hurt, but not nearly as bad as I was expecting. When he initally put the needle in, it hurt, and I thought I couldn't go on with it because I didn't think it was over, but it was over and it didn't hurt that bad. It was all just me working myself up like I always do (I have 12 assorted ear piercings).

The whole thing took maybe 2 minutes, and I was so proud of my self. So then I was pierced. And I just had this gnarly rush of adrenaline because I had gotten so worked up about the whole thing, and then it was over. Instinctively, the first thing I wanted to do as I got off the table was to touch it, but as I was reaching for it, the guy was like "DON'T TOUCH IT!!" and I was just like "SORRY!".

I was so happy with the way the whole situation went down, because it worked out so well, the man (I feel like shit because I can't remember his name) was so friendly and made me feel comfortable, and it was clean, and easy, and I loved how it looked. I would recommend it to anyone, because it's cute and it's easy. But the aftercare is a bitch. I was told to soak the piercing in salt water (saline) and it just hurt. It hurt a lot for a few days after, but now it's fine and it was completely worth it. I've had it for a year now, and I still love it. The next step is my nostril...
