I am thirteen years old and I desperately wanted to get my navel pierced. Now, my dad is really strict about piercings (He's very overprotective)! Seriously, I mean, he didn't even want to let me get my ear lobes pierced when I was seven years old! He thinks that piercing body is wrong because it's putting a hole in your body... Go figure! Parents! Honestly!

So, to convince him,I searched on the Internet and looked up some sites and some information about the process, the dangers, stories about other people and about their navel piercing experiences. Finally, my dad caved in and told me to find a Health Canada approved piercing studio. I looked up some places in Ottawa and visited them but they were either dirty or they just wouldn't pierce me because they said I was too young! So, again, I went on the Internet and I finally found one in Montreal.

I live in Ottawa so it was about a two hour drive, but since it has a great web site (www.black sun studio.com) and meets or exceeds the Health Canada standards, my dad was willing to drive me there. When we got there, I was extremely nervous all of a sudden. I am really scared of needles, and I absolutely hate them. They also hurt, so I was worried I wouldn't be able to handle the pain.

But the staff was very friendly and reassuring and they gave me some papers that I had to fill out and read with my dad. We signed the papers (which just asked whether I had allergies or not and when I had eaten my last meal and things like that). I was still pretty scared. When the piercing guy (Pierre) came out, and told me to take a seat, I was shaking. I was also about to back out of the whole thing, but my dad said that he didn't drive for two hours in the freezing rain for me to breakdown and come back to Ottawa without a navel pierced, so I couldn't!

Anyways, the piercer, Pierre, explained exactly what he was going to do and that he wasn't going to freeze it, because only piercers who aren't professional enough to do the piercing without hurting someone do that. Then He marked where he would pierce my navel and then sanitized the area he was going to pierce.

He then put the clamp on (which didn't hurt too much, except when he moved it around, I felt a slight pinch). I was holding my best friend's hand really tightly and then Pierre told me that he would tell me when he was going to put the needle through since he didn't want to catch me by surprise and clench my abdominal muscles. He counted to three and stuck the needle in which I won't lie, I did feel it a bit. Not too much though, honestly. There was a pinch, yes, but I mean absolutely anyone can bear that tiny thing! Honestly!

It was over in a like half a second! He pulled out the needle, put in the jewelery (which is a 12 gauge barbell with a pretty diamond on it, I love it!). It was all over! I was so shocked that I hadn't screamed or cried! Then he explained the aftercare procedures (buy an anti-bacterial soap and disinfectant liquid and wash your piercing at least twice a day). Then, at the cash we paid and there, we were done! Wow! I am truly happy! It's been 5 days since I got this piercing and I love it! It hasn't gotten infected at all, it looks perfect, as if it's been there my whole life and I'm totally in love with it! My self-confidence went up and I feel great everyday! My friends all want to get it done too ( which will be a different story for them to convince their parents but oh well), and all the guys think it's totally hot (Wait until they see me in my bikini in the summer and then it'll look even better)! If you want to get your navel pierced, go for it! It's awesome!

Just convince your parents that you promise you will take good care of it and accept whatever you need to do to keep it from being infected it will bring you. Fill them in with a lot of information, go on a search engine of your choice and type in navel piercing information or other stuff similar to that. Even get your parents to go to their doctor and ask them. When my dad did, the doctor was like : " That is totally fine! As long as she isn't piercing any place where there is cartilage (for example the top part of your ear, where there's a lot of cartilage) than it's perfectly safe!". Well, anyway, even my dad thinks it look pretty cool and my little sister wants to get it done sometime in the next couple years so it's all good.
