My Navel Experience

I'd been wanting to get my bellybutton pierced since I'd already had three lobe piercings and a double cartilage. From the time I had my ears double pierced at the end of freshman year (I'd had my ears single pierces since I was a baby), I became literally addicted to piercings. I have small ears, so I could only fit three on the lobes and I also got two cartilage piercings, so I had moved on from my ears to bigger and better things.
Now I have to say that I am not really into piercing every single piercable spot on my body. Piercing to me is not an act of rebellion or asserting my individuality or anything like that. It's just an opportunity to wear more pretty jewelry. So in considering wear to stick a hole in myself next, I came across one of my Britney Spears CDs. Her bellybutton ring struck me as being really sexy. So I decided that I too must have one. SO I started doing tons of research on BME, looking at millions of pics and reading thousands of experiences to determine if I really did want to have someone stick a needle in my stomach. After a few weeks, I decided that I did. SO I started on the process of begging my mom to let me do this. It was kind of a big step for her, because she let me do my ears with some trepidation, but to go to a piercing studio and get a part of my body pierced with a needle was just a little too much for her. SO I wrote letters, printed out information, did everythi ng possible to convince her that the world would not end if I had a 14 GA needle penetrate my navel. After only a month of begging, she finally agreed. SO first my best friend and I drove down to the place first to check it out, then a couple weeks later my mom and I made the forty minute drive, with her telling my that if I ever asked for another piercing she'd kick me out of the house.
When I got there, my mom went in first to tell them what I wanted and to pay for it. Then I went in and this really hot guy (the piercer) said 'hi' and led me into the room in which I would be pierced. The room itself was small, but bright, clean, and neat. He then asked me to lift up my shirt so he could clean it and mark the spot. At first he marked it up way too high, then he made another mark further down. I looked at it and said okay, then he had me lay down on this thing that looked like the table/bed thingies at the doctor's office. At that point in time I was really nervous, and I think he was talking to me, telling me what he was doing, but I wasn't listening. Then I felt this horrible pressure, followed by a sharp pain as he started to pierce me. It didn't last for long though, and when the pain subsided, I thought he was done. But no. He had only stuck the needle through, and now it was time for the ring. My mom had picked out a CBR with a black bead on it , and the piercer now had to put it through. That was by far the worst part; I felt a really painful tugging sensation that lasted for quite a while (it seemed) though it was really only for about thirty seconds. SO then he fastened the CBR together, and cleaned up the area. There was only a tiny amount of blood at the time, however I usually don't bleed very much. I looked at in the mirror for quite a while as he explained to me how to take care of my new adornment. I didn't remember what he said, but thankfully he gave me a little sheet that listed everything I think he said. I had Provon (soap), sea-salts, and a solution I was supposed to use 3x per day to clean off the piercing. SO in the car on the way home, I pulled out my cell and called my best friend (the one who had driven me there before) and I informed her that I had done it, and she asked if it hurt, to which I replied that, yes, it hurt like f***! SO we were both so excited, and she came over to inspect it.
In the weeks following, I took such good care of it, cleaning it in the shower with the Provon, at school twice with the solution , and at home once with the solution and 1-2 times with the sea salts. It did get infected once, but I cleaned it more assiduously for the next three days and by the fourth everything was fine. Three months later I got it changed from a ring to a curved barbell with a flower on the end, which was much more comfortable. I absolutely adore my navel ring, it is so pretty and sexy. All the guys I've ever met think it's really sexy too! J Anyway, my dad really didn't want me to get it done, so I couldn't say anything about it and I had to keep my nosy little sisters from finding out as well. But all in all it has been so awesome. The one complaint that I have is that it flips a little to the right instead of being completely straight, but it really only noticeable to myself. Now I'm working on getting my tongue pierced...but my mom might have a fit!
