I had wanted to get my navel pierced since I was 16, but my mom said that I could get nothing until I was old enough to sign for myself. When I was little I had gotten my first set of lobe piercings, then my second when I was around 12, and my third and cartilage when I was around 15. Just from those painful gun piercings, I was hooked and wanted more. Right before I turned 17, I became pregnant with my daughter, and it made me think twice about getting my tummy jeweled. I knew I would no longer have my sleek, smooth stomach I had had before and really didn't know if I wanted to spend the money to pierce it when I wouldn't want to show it off.
At A Glance Author KntckyQT Contact kntckyqt@yahoo.com When Two years ago Location Bowling Green, Kentucky The next December, I turned 18. The freedom of being able to get a body mod now ran through me and urged me to go for something. In February, I decided on my tongue and I loved the results. Of course I wanted more and more. By June I had lost all my baby weight and decided I had to go for my navel, even though I still didn't like the appearance of my belly. But I didn't care, it was for me, not for anyone else.
July came and I had some extra cash in my pocket. I called my friend Laura to see if she'd be up to doing it with me, and surprisingly she said yes. She came and picked me up, and off we went to Bowling Green. My friend Bekah had got her navel done a month before at a studio there, so I thought I'd give that place a try. It was in the upstairs of a place that sells things like pipes, hemp, and incense. I should've known right then to turn around and go somewhere else, but I was too eager to get pierced I guess. The place was one room with two counters (one for the piercing supplies and another with a display case for jewelry with a cash register on top) and a black chair that tilted back. I told the guy what we wanted. He told me to pick my jewelry out of anything in the case, which really surprised me considering that there was everything from CBRs to twisters in there. I settled on a banana barbell with a pink jewel in it, and Laura chose the same, but with a teal stone. B efore I could sit down, he realized that he was out of gloves, and left us there while he ran across the road to Walgreens to get some more. When he got back, I sit down in the chair and was told to undo my pants, roll them down, and tuck my shirt into my bra while the guy was getting things ready. I leaned back in the chair, was cleaned with an alcohol pad, and clamped. Then the guy counted to three and in went the needle. Not bad at all. He then followed the needle with the barbell, which hurt like hell! The threads and my freshly opened wound did not like each other at all! Finally it was done and I got up so Laura could sit down. But instead she stood around awhile deciding if she really wanted to or not. She stood around for a good 30 minutes before she finally sit down and went for it. After she was done she sit there for another 30 minutes deciding if she was going to get sick or not, so I went to get her a cup of water. Finally we paid, got our aftercare instruction s, and left. I think it was like $40 a piece (regular $45, but he gave us a discount). All my aftercare included was washing the piercing with antibacterial soap about twice a day and to move the barbell around with the soap on it and stuff so the soap could get into the hole.
Mine and Laura's both healed just fine and everything went great, but when I went to check on getting my tattoo and to get Bekah's tongue done with her, at a more respected and professional place in Nashville, I learned of all the mistakes the guy made who pierced me. For instance, not marking me for placement and using anything but a hoop (CBR) for my jewelry.
It's been a year and a half since I got my piercing done and I'm afraid to say that it's migrating. But I heard that could also be because I got it pierced after my pregnancy and my skin was still "destretching" itself. Luckily I found a barbell that I love that is really short and still looks good with the little piece of skin I have left.
I now have my nipples pierced and planning to go get a triangle as soon as I get some money saved up. If anyone has any questions or comments, feel free to e-mail me!
