I didn't hadn't really planned on getting my bellybutton pierced. I have had my ears done twice but getting your ears pierced is for little kids & its not very fashionable anymore, that & I wanted a level of pain. I really wanted my tongue done but my dad said if I did get it done I would be kicked out of home.
At A Glance Author kelz Contact roaddoggsgal@hotmail.com When Three months ago Artist i didnt get her name Studio essential beauty Location Adelaide, Australia I went into Adelaide with 2 of my friends to just stuff around for the day. After we'd watched a movie & I just decided hey I want to get pierced. I had thought of being rebellious & getting my tongue done just to piss off my parents but I thought I better not. We walked to Essential Beauty. I looked at all the jewelry in the glass cabinet. The lady who was going to pierce me asked what I wanted & after looking & pricing a lot of bars & rings I picked out a single jeweled blue banana.
She took me into the room. She told me to stand up & she marked my bellybutton. She asked if it looked good & I said yes. I WAS SO NERVOUS. I had to lie on the table with my hands under my bum so I didn't squirm. The lady told me to stop shaking because it isn't going to hurt. I just wanted to get it over & done with. She clamped my belly, which hurt a little. She asked if I wanted her to tell me when she did it & I nodded. Next thing she said it was done. I didn't believe her because I didn't feel anything. I stood up & looked in the mirror, I was so excited!
I paid my $80 ($40 for the piercing & $40 for the banana) & I bought some Hydrogen Peroxide to help with the healing. she gave me some aftercare instructions, which weren't very helpful, because they covered all Piercings. So I went on the net & researched what I should do. My friends were so surprised that I had actually got it done (they think I'm a wimp but I showed them)
I had to clean it with Sapoderm because you can't use soap. For the first week I cleaned it daily (after having a shower) with Hydrogen Peroxide then in the second week with Listerine (use the yucky yellow stuff because the blue & green is just lolly water & wont help your piercing at all) It didn't get infected which I thought it would. When I cleaned it with the Hydrogen Peroxide though it let out a white liquid stuff. If you do use Hydrogen Peroxide the white liquid isn't infection its because Hydrogen Peroxide kills off dead skin cells to that new growth can heal better. I was freaked out by thinking the Peroxide was going to make my piercing reject but it didn't happen. & after 8 weeks I still get bits of skin and body liquid sticking on the ball but its easily removed by washing it with water. It was pretty tender for the 1st few days but after that I didn't even notice it. I hated the first few days because anything that came in contact with my stomach hurt. The bar was heaps long when it was first pierced but as it heals the bar becomes more stable & doesn't stick out as much. It stays red for a little while which I was worried about. The main reason I didn't want an infection was because I though my navel would be easy to look after. My theory was if I could keep my navel from getting infected then when I get other piercings then they wouldn't get infected (my ears use to get infected all the time)
My parents didn't freak out when they saw it. I though they would because I hadn't asked permission. My mums still a bit freaked out when she sees it.
Now all my friends want it done. My best friend Alicia got it done just because I did, but I don't recommend just doing it because your friends did it. Do it because you want to. The place Alicia got hers done was not as high quality as Essential Beauty is. She didn't get given any aftercare instructions or any antiseptic so I wasn't very happy about that. Alicia's piercing did hurt her a little bit because they didn't put the clamp on tight enough. So I recommend checking out a few places before you decide where to get pierced or to ask other people who are pierced where they got theirs done.
I'd recommend that you get it done its worth it. It looks really good with the tops I wear & I don't look skanky as some parents think. Hopefully for my 18th I'll get my tongue done.
