Let's see...I'm a chicken when it comes to pain. Yet, I've realized when encountered with it - I have one high tolerance! Man...like that one time my big toenail got ripped off when I "stubbed" it, THAT was pain...anyways, back to the story! =) I've always wanted a navel piercing, ever since my sister came home with one when she was 18. Yes, I know it really doesn't serve a purpose or anything, but hey - it's cute!! Very sexy too, especially if you're one of those girls that love to show a midriff/tummy off like me. Great accessory to go clubbing and show it off too! So, I brought up the idea to my mother. Of course she had told my sister no, until she turns 18...but guess what answer I got? "Sure, I guess"!! Amazing how lenient my mother has gotten over the years. So I waited about a week, called up a few places for pricing and I decided on one close to my house. My sister had gotten piercings and a tattoo done there, so I felt better about it.

Finally the day comes - Friday, July 19th. We pull up to Jade Dragon Tattoo and I'm ready to chicken out once I see the storefront! One of my friends had got it done, and I had done investigating on websites and watching videos of the procedure - so I figured I was set. I walk in there and this little hottie, Tom, comes up and asks if he can help me. I tell him I wanted a navel piercing and with a barbell. So I looked at all the cases and of course I have to like the $70 one! We give the guy 100$ ($70 plus $30 to pierce) and he takes me to a seat. Everything was so clean because he opened up a new everything...new gloves, new clamp, etc. I stood up, and tucked my shirt under my bra. He washed my belly button and stuck the clamp on there. He told me to hold it and to lie down. I couldn't watch...so I closed my eyes and prepared myself. All I felt was this needle going through but then trying real hard to come out the other side. My skin is pretty thick, but finally it gave. H e then slid the barbell through and that felt even weirder. It hurt, but it was very bearable pain. I know you're wondering: how can any pain be bearable? It's hard to explain, but there is such a thing. I didn't flitch at all. Once he let the clamp off, that helped a little. I believe the clamp actually helped in a "counter the pain" kind of way, so the piercing didn't hurt quite as much. A lot of people hate the clamp, but just imagine how much it would hurt if the clamp wasn't there! Anyways, I got up and looked at my newly pierced navel! Very Sexy~!

If you're thinking of getting yours pierced, don't worry about the pain. It's nothing compared to some things I've hurt myself with. It's about less than a minute of discomfort, that's all. After it's done, the pain's over! Just have to clean it everyday and you're set to show it off! Only downside is if you like to sleep on your tummy like me, you'll have to sacrifice it for a bit. After about five days, I could sleep like I normally did – all over the place. I've only had my ears pierced prior to this, so I had reason to be a little scared. But just think of how much a tongue or clit piercing would hurt compared to a navel piercing! Your navel getting pierced is not far off from a needle getting stuck in the muscle of your arm for a shot! Seriously! If you're nervous, like I was, close your eyes and grip the chair handles with your hands. I think doing that and concentrating on how nervous you are and the over-exaggeration of how much it'll hurt – helps greatly. In the end you're surprised at how very little it hurt!

As for whether you should get a barbell or a ring, that's up to you. Ring are supposedly easier to clean, but personally, barbells aren't that bad. A downside to rings is the fact that they'll get knocked around quite a bit, and let me tell you – hitting a new piercing can really hurt. Barbells stay in place, and personally I think they even look better! I also hear that if you get a ring, you have to turn it to clean the other side...OW!! You don't have to pay an arm and leg for the piercing either. Different places charge different prices and if I wanted a $24 barbell, they had them. Plain stainless steel barbells with no design would save some dough if you don't have that much extra cash. So what are you waiting for? Start calling around and get it done! =)
