Hello, my name is heather and I am 14 years old. I got my belly button pierced two days ago. I've been wanting it done on and off now for about a year but I figured that being a figure skater may interfere. In April the skating season was over so I decided to ask my mom again and she said yes! She said that she would pay for it too because it was my Easter present. I ended up getting this done about a month after Easter because I had the music festival in between this and decided it would be too much trouble at this point in time.

After this, I called a few different places asking different questions to each place trying to find out more information. I then decided on a place called Belle Coiffure because they seemed to know a lot and were more professional.
I called them up on Wednesday to make an appointment for Friday afternoon at 3:15, right after school. I think I was driving everybody insane because I was so excited! Finally it was 3:00 and the final bell rang. Me and my 3 friends ran and jumped into my van. My mom drove us to the place where I was getting it done and when I was waiting I went in to pick out the piece of jewellry I wanted. People say that hoops are easier to clean but I thought a barbell would look a lot nicer for my stomach. I finally made up my mind on a titanium barbell with green and purple beads on the end. I wasn't allowed to get a plastic one, they said it's not good for first piercings.
After this, I was called in to this small room. My 3 friends came in with me of course. First, I had to stand up and hold up my shirt so she could put on this cleanser stuff. I then layed down on a very comfortable "dentist-like" chair. I started to get really nervous but I knew that I couldn't back out now seeing that I was so excited! Secondly, she put on the clamp and it felt like a little bit of a pinch but after about 10 seconds I couldn't really feel it. I thought the clamp was going to be this big huge thing that reels out your skin but it was actually the size of a pair of scissors used to cut hair! Thirdly, she told me to relax and breath in and out and she said that when I breath out that she would put the needle through. When she inserted the needle into my skin, it just felt like a normal needle that you would have for blood tests or something. Like a sharp pain in your stomach for about 2 seconds. That's right! 2 seconds! Then, I got up and looked in the mirror and fell in love with my bellybutton! It was so pretty. When I got home, the girl who pierced me called me and said she put the wrong beads on so I had to go back and get them changed but I was happy because I wanted the beads that I picked out.
She told me to clean my belly button twice daily with spectro-gel,a type of antibacterial soap that has no scent and it doesn't leave any extra particles or flakes of soap left behind . I use a little spray bottle to wet my belly button and then I push up one end of the barbell and put the spectro-gel on it and push it through the hole. I then do this to the other end and repeat this method just to make it cleaner! After this, I rinse it for a long time again with the spray bottle and I make sure I haven't left any soap behind. Make sure you dry it completely afterwards with a tissue or paper towel. Don't use a towel! It says on my "care sheet" to not use any towels. I am not sure why but I use a paper towel. Leaving it to dry means that it may get infected easier. However, everybody has their ways of doing things so listen to the person who pierces you about cleaning and when to change it.
My belly button is doing very well so far and it doesn't even hurt unless I something hits it or it rubs up against something. I must admit that I'm very satisfied with my piercing and I am saying that it is totally worth it! E-mail me if you have any questions regarding navel piercings!I'd be happy to answer them for you!
