My mother is one of those people who hates piercings. She hates them all. I had one hole on both my ears and it took me until I was 13 to persuade her to let me get a second hole for my ears. Then it took me until 14 to persuade her to let me get my cartilage on my left ear. We came to a mutual decision that I can have anything on my ears pierced. I soon found out that she lied, because she flipped out when I asked if I could get an industrial, rook and/or tragus piercing.

I wasn't going to do it myself because I know way too many people who have had problems with their own piercings. Plus one day I want to become a professional piercer so I'd rather not pierce something until I know the right way it's done.
So I turned 16 and after doing a lot of research I decided I wanted to get my belly button pierced. My Mom wasn't happy with the fact that I wanted it done because it wasn't on my ears. I explained to my Mom that it was a hole and could close up if she didn't like it and it's not as permanent as a tattoo. She's liked that. I also added it's not on my face so no visible scars. She liked that too. After months of convincing she slowly was starting to give in. I showed her my research and I proved to her that it was my responsibility to take care of it and it would prove to her that I'm growing up and becoming responsible to take care of myself. (Parents go for that, so if you want a good reason to get something pierced, it's YOUR responsibility and you will prove YOU are responsible.)
My Mom gave in and in January of 2002 I was on my way with my Mom and boyfriend to Adrenaline in Brick, NJ to get my belly button pierced. Most of my friends have been to the Adrenaline in Brick and requested I go see Freddie because Freddie knows his stuff. So I walk in and I was sorta scared because of this dude in the corner who looked like a serial killer and my Mom goes "That guy is NOT touching you." So I was like "Mom, don't worry, that's not Freddie." and as soon as I said that, Freddie turns around and says "What do you want done?" So I told him the normal belly button piercing, 14 g, with silver barbell. I signed like 8 papers and I was ready to go!
Freddie told me to go to the first door on the right and take a seat. I walked in and there were all these pictures of people getting piercings done. Good thing my Mom decided she didn't want to come watch, those pictures would have made her flip. I saw Fred's certificate on the wall which made me feel really comfortable. So he prepped everything and went to go pierce my belly button. Of course I had to watch. He poked the needle through with no problem and I didn't feel anything until he put the jewelry in. It didn't hurt it was just an uncomfortable feeling. So I walked out, met my mom who told me NOT to show it to her, paid and everything, got my soap from the creepy guy up front and left.
As soon as I got into the car, we hit a bump and my seat belt hit the fresh piercing and I felt a jolt of pain surge throughout my body. I figured it was no big deal. I went home and for 2 months did what they said and cleaned it properly. Somehow it was still infected. Then I realized that my skin is sensitive to silver and gold. Everytime I got my ears pierced if the back of the earring layed on my ear, the hole would get infected. That's when I made a comparison with my belly button. The top ball was laying against my belly button and that part was infected. For the next couple days I made sure the ball didn't lay directly on the top of my belly button and like magic the piercing began to heal. So I did that for a month and my belly button was looking great, but not me. I gained some weight which was starting to make the piercing snug. I didn't want it to get too tight so I decided it's been a while I can get a new piece of jewelry soon.
So April rolls around and the piercing was okay and I didn't have to change the jewelry because I lost the weight again but I still wanted a new piece of jewelry because the silver balls were annoying me. So I got this really cool barbell with blue PLASTIC balls and my piercing looks awesome.
