So here is my story about getting my navel pierced. The time came around for me wanting to get something pierced or tattooed and since I just recently got a tattoo I figured it was time for a new piercing. I have no idea what I wanted so I looked on BME (of course) for endless hours deciding what I should get. I was kind of thinking my nose but where I work it is really hard to get away with piercings and you have to either take them out or cover them with a band aid. Plus it would be too early to use a retainer. Anyways on with the story.

But I started thinking hey who cares about the trend and decided I should go for it. My boyfriend has been always hinting that it would look cute on me if I got it done.
I told my mom about what I wanted and she sighed and went through the whole little are you sure, are you going to take care of it, are you going to pay for it speech. Of course I said yes, yes and yes. So I called up the shop my ex bf is starting to work at and I set up an appointment.
I only had a couple of no big deal concerns about the piercing. How I would sit in class all damn day and I was worried about it migrating out. But I read up on some experiences and looked at some pictures on BME so I would have some idea what would be going on.
The following Saturday I headed down to the shop. I've never gotten anything pierced there. But I've seen my ex pierce before and I know that he knows what he's doing and takes pride in and works hard at what he does.
I recommend eating something before getting something pierced so you don't get dizzy or anything and it will sometimes help settle the nerves. Also wear pants that wont get in the way of the piercing.
Well I got to the shop, went through all the fun stuff of signing papers and showing our I.D. and I picked out a curved barbell. They didn't have much, just your basic looking ones. I picked out a 14g titanium curved barbell. While he was autoclaving everything and cleaning the area, I looked around at some flash for a possible next tattoo idea. About 20 minutes later he called me back there and I sat on the table nervous as all hell. I have done this many times before and I still don't know why I get nervous. He had me lay down and he changed his gloves and cleaned around my bellybutton and some other stuff. Then he had me stand up and stand straight, still and with my arms at the side. Which wasn't easy cause I was a little on the nervous and side and was kind of shaking and rocking back and forth. He told me just to breathe normally and loosen up. It did help I must say. He got the mark done and I lied back down and took some deep breaths to get ready for it. He put the clamps on me and it didn't even hurt at all just a little prick. Could hardly tell. But it did feel kind of funny when he was screwing on the bottom ball.
I showed my mom and she thought it cute. I paid Shawn 60 dollars for the piercing and tipped him also and went over the aftercare and told me if I had any troubles or questions to come in or call him.
The drive home was the worst. I had to lay down in the car cause it felt all funny and was starting to hurt a little. When I got home I just chilled out on the couch the rest of the day cause I didn't want to move the piercing around too much. My top hole would bleed once and a while, not too much and the next day it would too.
Aftercare: For the first month I'm probably just going to do 2 sea salt soaks a day and when I'm in the shower clean it with some Dial soap. That's what seems to go well with my other piercings. After the month I'll just do the sea salt soaks so it wont get dried out. Don't want that to happen.
So far I haven't had any problems with it, but I shouldn't talk. Might give me bad luck. If you think the navel piercing is something you want, go for it. Who cares if they think you're following a trend. It's to please yourself not others!
