To start off I am 15 years old almost 16. Ever since I was 13 I have wanted my bellybutton pierced. My mom agreed to let me get it pierced but there was a problem. No one would pierce a 13 years old bellybutton where I live so I decided to wait a few years. Well, since my 16th birthday is coming up I brought the idea back up again to mom and she's all for it. So here we go on with my story.

June 20th, 2001 my mom told me that today was the day! We were going to get my bellybutton pierced! Wow! Butterflies sure did start flying around in my stomach. I got really excited and started running around getting ready so we could go making sure to wash my bellybutton extra good in the shower. I finally finish getting ready and my sister called this one place to reserve a time and for some odd reason they didn't pierce bellybuttons anymore. UGH! I knew that wasn't happening to me! After I had waited for 2 years I wasn't going to let that stop me. So I start calling around trying to find a place that would pierce my bellybutton. Finally I found one. So off we go! We get to the place and the lady who does the piercing was going to lunch and would be back so she told my mom and I to go in a fill out some forms and pick out the jewelry. I couldn't believe it! I was really going to get my bellybutton pierced! So my mom and I go in and fill out the forms and pick out my jewelry. While we're waiting I start getting really dizzy and nervous. The lady finally gets back and tells me to follow her so she can pierce my bellybutton. I start freaking and grab my moms arm and pull her into the room with me. The lady tells me to stand up straight and she cleans my bellybutton. After she finished doing that she marked 2 little dots where she was going to pierce it. By this time I was shaking and feeling like I was going to throw up. She tells me to lie down on the table so she can clamp the skin and then she would pierce it. Well I start crying because I'm scared that it's going to hurt really bad when she pierces it. My mom finally calms me down after about 5 minutes and the lady had to clamp it again because she took it off. I'm not going to lie, the clamps do sting but you can put up with that. Well, as soon as I saw a needle in her hand I start crying again and freaking out. This guy named Doug who does tattoos was in the room too so he is trying to calm me down too telling me it'll be ok and it won't hurt. I couldn't believe that after I wanted my bellybutton pierced for so long I was acting that way! So anyway every time the lady got near me with the needle I'd bring my leg up in the table and she kept telling me to keep my legs down so the piercing would be straight. Well I couldn't stop so she asked Doug to hold my legs down. Since I couldn't move my legs I started to sit up. Here comes my mom and holds me down. I couldn't move seeing as my mom is holding my chest down and Doug is holding my legs down. So I start crying really hard! My mom tells the lady to go ahead and pierce it mean while I'm screaming, "NO DON'T I CHANGED MY MIND!" I guess no one was listening because the lady pierced my bellybutton anyway! To my surprise it hardly hurt at all! It felt like getting my ears pierced except on my bellybutton hehe. So I stopped crying and asked is that all? And the lady said I told you it wouldn't hurt. I did all that crying for nothing! I sure did feel really stupid! Well I got a total adrenaline rush so I had to lay there for a while and after I calmed down I stood up and admired my beautiful bellybutton! =o) I got a silver banana bell with diamond looking gems in the top and bottom balls. It's so pretty!

Now that I finally got my bellybutton pierced I clean it twice a day with Dial antibacterial soap and saline solution. I read that saline solution and sea salt are about the same thing and that they both work. Evidently I'm doing everything right because it's been pierced 4 days and it hasn't really hurt any to my surprise. If anyone out there reading this wants their bellybutton pierced and is scared that it'll hurt, trust me, it doesn't hardly hurt at all. I'm the biggest chicken there is when it comes to pain! I fainted when I got my ears pierced both times and I didn't even faint when I got my bellybutton pierced. If I can do it anyone can do it! I highly suggest you get it done if you want it done. I just suggest you keep it really clean so that it doesn't get infected and also you should get a barbell or a banana bell instead of a ring because they are easier to take care of and clean. They also won't get snagged on your clothes. Well I am off to clean my bellybutton! As I said before, if you want your bellybutton pierced and you're scared to GET IT DONE! It hardly hurts! If anyone has any questions feel free to email me. I promise to email you back with answers.
