Well it all started when I was about 13 and my brother's girlfriend, Michelle, got her belly button pierced. Ever since then I've wanted one. I would go to Claire's and Afterthought's and buy them fake, clip on belly button rings, and joke around with my mom. My mom and dad never had any interest in getting anything on my body pierced. I literally had to beg to get my second hole in my ears. I really wanted it done because summer was coming up and every body had them. But getting my mom and dad's permission was the toughest thing in the world. So I began the long, compromising begging.

After about 2 years of begging, my mom, dad, and me went out to eat and they started drinking. Being the "trouble-maker" I am, I asked if I could get my belly button pierced. My mom said to ask my dad. So thinking he answer would be "NO!" and there would be no question about it, I asked for the hell of it. He said YES!! I about pee-ed on myself!
I told all my friends about piercing it and they told me don't do it because it would hurt, but after waiting about 3 years, I went for it anyway. I went to this nice shop in the middle of B.F.E. (Bum F**k Egypt) and picked out the cutest ring there was. (Start out with a ring. Their easier to keep clean.) It was a 14 gauge ring with a little pink ball that changed colors when it moved. The lady who pierced it was nice and told me about her experiences with hers giving her troubles and hurting. I almost turned around and walked out, but I decided to give it a try. If it would hurt, I would just take it out.
My mom paid the lady and we walked back to this cozy room with a leopard skin bed and fuzzy leopard pillows. My mom signed papers, and the lady made marks on my tummy with an erasable marker. I laid down on the table and she started getting things ready. DO NOT watch this part because you will chicken out. They pull out needles and scissors and all kinds of stuff. She wiped my tummy and I started getting nervous. She pulled the skin where I was going to have my ring and then stuck the needle through. My mom screamed, I just closed my eyes and curled my toes. When she stuck the needle in, it poked the top of my tummy, causing it to cut me, so don't look down with it still in you. Mine bled for about 15 minutes, but that's becuase I'm a heavy bleeder. Then she said "All done." I felt dizzy and faintish when I stood up, but it went away in about 15 seconds. She took a picture of me and put it next to the picture of Michelle's little sister, Kim, who happens to be my best friend.
After I got it pierced I had to take showers for like two weeks and couldn't sleep on my tummy! :( I cleaned it like 5 times a day with Q-tips and contact solution. I had a hard time keeping my boyfriend from playing with it. But after I slapped him a few times, he quit playing with it. The sorness went away in about 3 days. That didn't mean I had to stop cleaning it. There was crust around the ring and some pus looking stuff. Just get in the shower and let the crust get soft and then after you get out and clean it, it should come right off. I could sleep on my tummy again in no time!
I couldn't believe that it was all done and it didn't even hurt. Now Michelle, Kim, and me brag about our experiences getting our belly buttons pierced.
Some suggestions:
1) Look around before just picking an artist. You never know what kind of trouble you are getting into.
2) Wear low-riding pants/shorts. The rubbing of the pants/shorts will irritate it.
3) Contact solution will help clean it. I wore doctors gloves when I cleaned mine because I didn't won't to infect it.
4) Ask all the questions before you get it pierced. (Like:How will you do it?, How big is the needle?, How long will it hurt?, How long do I leave the stud in?)
5) Do not let your boyfriend poke around with it. (Like: kiss it, play with it, rub it.)
6) Take showers for about 2 weeks. Sitting in your bath water might infect it because of all the germs.
7) Do not go swimming. The water has chemicals in it. It might sting.
