I have had an obsession with jewellery since I can remember. I nagged and nagged my mum 2 let me get my ear pierced at the top last year, u see, she is not keen on piercing any where other than ear lobes, but I succeeded and it got sooo infected, but that is another boring story. Neways, about 2 years ago, navel piercing started 2 become quite popular over in England and I was desperate to get it done, but my parents would not even consider it. Then just before Christmas 2000 my friend Danielle had it done and I was so jelous, my mum kept saying, when your 16 which was like next year, well, sometime later just after Christmas, she finally agreed.

Finally my turn came, I was so excited. I went to this beauty salon in Liverpool town centre called Beverly Hills Nails Co (which my mum had already visited to check out) and when we got into town the lady there said that I had to go straight away. The place looked clean but it smelt weird, kinda like nail polish remover and that made me feel kind of sick. I wasn't really nervous and I picked out my jewellery which was a surgical steel barbell with double (1 at the top and bottom) crystal jewels that shimmered rainbow colours. Then, the lady led me up some stairs into a small white room. Everything looked very clean and was in packets. I was told to lay down on this small bed thing (it reminded me of that scene in House on Haunted Hill, you know where the mad doctor is cutting open 1 of the mental patients) well, that kinda made me laugh nervously and my mum was no help, she thought it was amusing. I lay down and the woman was really nice, she marked me where the piercing would be and assured me I would be ok, I must have gone a funny colour. I asked her probly the most common question "will it hurt?" then she put on the clamps, which I have to say were the most painful part. I lay there in uncomfortable pain. I cant describe it except that it is uncomfortable but bearable. Then I felt a sharp prick and a tight feeling. Honestly, I felt nothing more, it didn't hurt, I don't know wether that was because all I could feel was the clamps or what, but I would go throught that again if I had 2 so it cant have been that bad. When the jewellery was being put in it was the strangest feeling, I cannot describe it in any other way except for imagine you have a coin under your skin, it isn't painful but really hard and tight. Then, I cautiously got up, thanked the woman and left with a bandage on my navel. It did not bleed until I was in mcdonalds with my friend alex, walking round like I had a pole up my ass. Then I noticed that bandage was full of blood. When I got home the bandage was so full of blood and it kept pouring out. I cleaned it and changed the dressing which again was covered. Later that night, I went out with my mates and dancing and everything. Surprisingly, although I kept my piercing covered just incase, it stopped bleeding and did not hurt at all. When I was in bed it was just tender if I rolled over or knocked it but the bleeding had stopped. When my ear was infected It throbbed and I was so convinced that was going to happen to my belly, but I cleaned it religiously and it was fine. If you live in England, I would highly recommend the Savlon Spray with the pink top. Even for the first time it did not sting and worked perfectly. Now, 3 months later my belly button seems to be doing fine and I love it, I cant wait to change it. Oh, one more thing, I was really upset cos it looked crooked but that was just the slight swelling and it is fine now but I nearly let it heal over because I am a perfectionist and like things exactly perfect so if ures looks wonky or whatever, I say wait until its healed and then make ure decision cos chances are, like mine, it is just swelling.

Oh, I was advised not to have a soak in the bath until after 4 months but I did after 2 and as long as I rinse in the shower after it is fine. Oh yeah, and mine didn't even go red or pussy or crusty or nethin and me and some other mates who have had theirs done have a theory which may or may not be true, but if u have found it so, please let me no; the more you bleed, the quicker it heals.
