I finally got it done. I have been waiting 3 years since I saw someone with a belly button ring. I've loved it ever since and yesterday I got my navel pierced. None of my close friends had it done and I wanted to be unique because everything these days it so generic. I tried to get my parents to let me get my tongue pierced but that was definite "NO" until I could sign for my self. Oh well.

I phoned all over the city and place that the people seemed the nicest was transformations tattoo and body piercing. They were really informative and explained everything. They were also really easy to get along with and I knew that they were who was going to do my piercing.
I was kinda scared because, well I've never had a needle shoved through my body without it being a medical emergency. (I've had some accidents that include a band saw once and some two-by-fours another time.) I really love the way it looks and every time I saw someone else with one I always asked them about it.
I had hoped that I could get a barbell put in because everyone seems to have those capture rings and I wanted to be unique but my piercer said that it wouldn't heal as well because you can't clean the part of a barbell that is inside and you can with a ring. I was a little disappointed so I decided for a barbell that looked like a ring but it didn't connect, it just had two balls at its ends but they couldn't find one small enough.
It took a little while to convince my parents that I could handle it and that it wasn't very dangerous but they finally gave in after I worked on them for a little while. I picked the day and after a long swim in the lake (I wasn't going to be able to swim for awhile) I was ready and we headed down there.
The day before I had gone to make an appointment and I found that I really like the atmosphere and I got along quite well with my piercer as I already said a few paragraphs up. When we arrived the next day he was just finishing up with someone else. He talked about the price of the different jewellery and I picked out a curved barbell. He asked if he could see me stomach and when I showed him he said that I was almost unpiercable because I didn't have a lot of fat. I was going to have to settle for a capture ring.
He lead me into a small room with pictures of hard-core piercing all over and in the center of the room a chair that looked somewhat like a dentists chair was waiting for me. He asked me to lie down and relax because he had to go get some stuff. I just tried not to think about the piercing. I was really scared. He came back in and let me pick out which bead I wanted. I picked a cute little holographic blue bead for my ring. We chatted about rock climbing (We both climb) while he cleaned my stomach with some stuff that looked like blood, then a clear liquid and then he wiped it clean. He grabbed a fine point pen and dotted where the needle would go and asked me if it looked straight. I said yes and I laid back down onto the chair.
Everything that he brought out was in sealed bags that you had to rip to open. Everything was so clean. The chair raised up and the back lowered until I was lying flat on my back and he asked me if I wanted some music and aroma therapy. I said yes because I just wanted to get my mind off of that damn needle. It helped a lot and I was completely relaxed. He got me to take deep breaths inhaling through my nose and exhaling through my mouth. I closed my eyes and I could feel him putting on the clamp and getting ready to put the needle through. (The clamp hurt a bit more than the actual piercing.)
As I exhaled he pushed the needle through. I gasped but as soon as I looked down and saw the needle it stopped hurting. It hurt a bit to put the jewellery in but all in all it was a great experience.
Saline solution works quite well because it helps your body accept your piercing. (I recommend it to anyone that just got their navel pierced.) Salt baths and tea tree oil soap work well as cleaners also. Also wash your hands really, really well before touching your piercing. I know it sounds likd "Do this, and do that!" but if your don't do this stuff you'll get a nasty infection.
He showed me how to clean it and what I should buy to clean it with. We paid and then bought all the stuff that it said to get on the pamphlet he gave me. I couldn't stop looking at it. I was just so proud that I had gone through with it. I had an salt bath, washed it and put saline on it and it isn't even red. I haven't gotten "Crusties" yet either. I'm thinking about other piercings, (maybe my tongue or eyebrow) but I don't know yet.
