I'm seventeen years old. I've wanted to get my lip pierced since I was thirteen. I used to go to a private Christian school, so I wasn't allowed to have any piercings besides my ears. I transferred to a public school for my senior year, so I decided to get my lip pierced over the summer.
At A Glance Author Laura Contact jadenlayneliten@hotmail.com When Six months ago Artist LaLa Studio Evermore Galleries Location Chattanooga,TN Mother agreed after a bit of convincing. She was afraid of what dad would think, but finally she said "okay". My birthday is in the middle of April, so I had to wait until the end of May to get it done. It was most definitely well worth the wait.
The last day of school finally came, and I decided that I wanted to go to my friends' graduation with my lip pierced. I drove out to the piercing/tattoo studio where I'd gotten my industrial (that's a neat piercing as well! I highly recommend it!) done, and told LaLa that I wanted my lip pierced. I was undecided as to whether I wanted a ring or a stud, and I chose a 14 gauge ring. **For all of you wanting a lip ring, get a stud first. The ring is hard to change yourself. You can go get it changed at your studio, but a stud is just easier to care for.**
Besides my mother, I had my best friend Eric with me. He sat in the room and held my hand, just because he likes to feel like he contributed in some way. When LaLa took out the clamp though, he took a few steps back and the color drained from his face. I was calm though. She told me to breathe in deeply and then as I exhaled, she stuck in the needle and the jewelry. I flinched a little bit, and felt a little pinch, but the pain was very minimal. Eric on the other hand, flipped out. He looked like he's been the one to just get his lip pierced, the big baby. He went pale as a sheet and almost threw up.
I bought some sea salt spray, and put that on three times a day. It helped clean the piercing, but it tasted disgusting. I literally gagged every time I had to use it. Mind you, my gag reflex is very good, and not much can make me sick, but something about that spray was just...nasty. I'm glad that I don't have to deal with that anymore. My lip swelled a bit, and it hurt a bit as well, but after about a week and a half, I looked and felt completely normal again. The piercing and jewelry cost about $50, and the salt spray cost $10. I must say, that was the best birthday present I've ever received.
Dad didn't say anything for the first three months that I got it, so I thought he was okay with it. Turns out, he didn't even notice until I put a stud in my lip. He had an absolute COW at the fact that I had an extra hole in my face! After he realized that there was really nothing he could do about it, he calmed down a bit. He still doesn't know that mother signed for it.
Out of all the piercings I've gotten, this was definitely one of the most painless. I only have ear piercings, (3 in each earlobe, left tragus and cartilage, and an industrial in the right) but compared to them, this was nothing. I really thought it would hurt a lot since it was around my mouth, but it was virtually painless!
LaLa is very good at what she does. She did my industrial, and it was over so fast that I didn't even know what had happened. A few of my friends have been to her for piercings, and they all loved her work. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Actually, I think I'm going back to her in April to get my first tattoo. Yes, she does tattoos as well! The studio is very clean and smells like a hospital. I know that studios are supposed to be clean, but Evermore is spotless. They scored a 95 on their health inspection, which is higher than some of the restaurants I've worked at. It's a tad out of my way, considering there is a studio four blocks from my house, but I just like Evermore. It's a good place to get your first piercing or tattoo.
I love my lip ring! I've gotten so many compliments on how good I look with it! I would completely recommend this piercing to anyone who is thinking about getting one! I've had it for about seven months now, and I haven't had any problems with it at all! The pain isn't unbearable. In fact, there isn't much pain at all really. It looks really good! I think I'll go with my nose next!
