My Monroe

After two years of begging and pleading with my mum to allow me to get my Monroe, she finally caved in and said yes. I have always loved the piercing and have found it to be beautiful and one of a kind. I was thrilled that I was finally able to get it done. The only problem was who and where I should go to to get it pierced.

Being 15, there isn't a lot of places that are willing to do piercings other than ears on a minor. Thankfully for me, me and my best friend know an "aspiring" piercer. The only thing is, he is 15, and the only thing on him was a safety pin. O.o Yes, I know many of you would say "You stupid child! Why in God's name would you ever do that, etc." , but, the point is, I did. I went over my best friend's house where the guy is, coincidently, her neighbor, and that's where I got it done.

Many people would think that it was the most painful thing on earth, being that it was un-professionally done. To be brutally honest, it didn't hurt. It actually went like this:

I sat down on the toilet, the guy got the pin, told me to breathe in and out, and he pushed it through. I felt it, no lie, but it wasn't a horrible feeling. More like a rush, if you will. The aftermath is what made this unforgettable. The stud I had was too big for the hole, so he had to RE-pierce it with a BIGGER pin, about 16G. I didn't mind, but my nerves did. I became woozy and almost passed out. I was so nervous, and here was this guy about to pierce my lip again. I finally composed myself, he re-pierced it, and literally wedged the damn stud in. It took a LONG time to get the damn thing in, but in the end, it was totally worth it. It swelled up for about 2 days, and now, all I'm getting is scar tissue and puss coming out, which is normal, I hope. It doesn't look like it's going to get infected, since I am cleaning it like no other, and putting neosporin on it. I want to get another one, on the opposite side of my lip, and have the same guy pierce it for me.

The main problem I am having with it is eating. Haha. Believe it or not, it is so damn hard to eat with it. My best friend has her bottom lip pierced on the right side, and she has the same problem, so I know it's not just me. I suggest taking it easy for a day after getting it. Stay away from people who make you laugh a lot. Because THAT is the worst, laughing and talking after getting it done. Other than that, the only thing to worry about is it getting infected. Another thing that you should keep in mind is getting the right stud for it. Do NOT get it too small, for the hole needs room to swell up and heal. If you get it too small, the back will sink into the hole (believe me, it happened to my friend, I was there) and the skin will possibly heal OVER your stud. And don't get it TOO big, because it will be a pain in the ass. If you have NO idea where to go to get one, and it's driving you insane, look into different stores, such as clothing stores. I live in Los Angeles, and we have Hot Topic. Thankfully it has a wide selection of studs, rings, everything for every piercing, and sometimes they will have a sale. :]

One last thing: Don't let anyone give you shit about your piercing. If you think you look fabulous with it, and someone says that it looks freaky or that the stud is too big, forget them. The only thing you need to worry about is if YOU like it. I got it, my little 8 year old sister is in LOVE with it, my brother is deciding whether or not he likes it, my mom needs to get used to it, my dad doesn't mind, my grandma disowned me and isn't talking to me, my other grandma doesn't care all that much, and if my grandpa sees it, I will no longer be living. What I think about it? I don't. I love it, and that's all that counts, and everyone should think like that. The only people you (and I) should care about are the people and your boss at your work, and the "authority" figures at school (if you are still in school).

If you want to get this piercing done, go for it. But I would suggest going to a professional, because of the sterile equipment (thankfully my guy burned the HECK out of the pin to sterilize it). Also, do NOT do it by yourself. You could mess up badly and your lip could be disfigured or badly infected. If you have any questions, e-mail me!
