I had just gotten my lip pierced in late April and already I was having the familiar piercing itch. My parents told me no more piercing ever and them, being the anti-piercings, Christian freaks they are, I thought it was the end of my piercing craze until I became 18.

Studio My Tattoo Location Alhambra I finally got up the mind to ask for a new piercing and I saw a man in Hot Topic with an Industrial and immediately I wanted one, I had always loved them but this was the time I was actually going to do it. I asked my dad and he agreed after a while of begging but about a week before I was going to actually do the piercing, I saw a girl with a Monroe and knew I had to have one instead.
I knew my parents would go for it, my mom loved them and a Monroe was not as extreme as an Industrial so my dad would have to go for it. Sure enough he said yes right away and in a week I was off to get my Monroe piercing.
After summer school, this had been a long day due to me wanting it to be after school so bad, and the fact that class was just boring, me and my girlfriend and my best friend waited after school for my dad to pick me up and finally he did and we set off to the piercing studio. Well after a few mishaps, me thinking I lost 20 dollars and my dad yelling at me because I wanted to stop at McDonalds even though we both did not have money on us for food. So we set off for Alhambra, a good 20 minutes away from where I lived.
We arrived soon at My Tattoo, a piercing studio I liked and was familiar with seeing as I got my lip pierced there. The woman who did my piercing wasn't working that day, which was okay with me, she was not very friendly.
I arrived at the studio and immediately my girlfriend and best friend ran off to the Pac Man arcade game set up on the side while my dad and I went off to fill out the paperwork that my piercer, I did not catch her name, Nicole I think, had given me.
I waited a while after picking out my jewelry, a small silver ball and, after losing at a game of Pac Man I finally got called into the back. My girlfriend Brittany and best friend Natasha went in with me while my dad stayed behind but one of the tattoo artists working there asked him to go with me into the back, something about it being the law.
Nicole asked me to sit down and by that time I was kind of nervous, I always get nervous before piercings even though im not afraid of the pain. Just natural I guess. She even said I looked a bit scared, so had one of the tattoo artists when I walked in.
Nicole got on a fresh pair of gloves and began to set out the supplies and began to put the small ball on the pliers. I stupidly asked "Are you going to mark my lip," and she laughed saying "Of course, I don't want to just stab your lip." She marked my lip and I went to the mirror and looked. It was way too far over so I marked it again, asking everyone in the room for an opinion and no one could offer me one. The mark was too close to the gums so she marked it again, in between both our marks and it was perfect. I agreed and she clamped my lip, which did not hurt, just a little pressure. She asked me to breathe in and out and on my first breath in I could feel the point of the needle on my lip, which is not a feeling I really like. It makes me more nervous. I did it once more and in went the needle, which did not hurt at all. Hurt less then my lip when it was pierced to be honest, but maybe it was because I already knew what to expect.
The worst part was when she put in the jewelry, it always is for me. She got the stud in with some effort and was yanking and pulling at my lip for a while it seemed like. I could not swallow and felt like I was about to drool all over the place, which would definitely be embarrassing in front of my girlfriend. I swallowed quickly when she went to go get the ball and after a little bit more yanking she finally got it on.
I could not see it for a while once it was done because she began talking about after care. In the middle the tattoo artists from before came in and was like "wow!" and gave me a smile and then started talking to my dad about his shoes haha.
Finally I was able to look at my Monroe and I fell in love with it, something I feared was that the ball would be too big on me, I have a small face and everything but the ball was just the right size. I also feared it would look silly on me but it actually suits my face nicely. Natasha was against me getting this piercing because she does not like how one side lip ring and a Monroe look but she said it looked better then she thought it would.
It was pretty sore afterwards and my dad had the air on and it blew on my face and hurt it a lot. Finally it got better and I could not even feel it. Eating is pretty hard, it hurts and kissing my girlfriend was a little hard at first but I got the hang of it. One problem I had today (I'm writing this on the first day I got pierced) was that I was eating Jack in the Box and even though I took little bites the back of the stud got stuck behind my tooth and I had to fix it, I was kind of scared it was going to rip out of my lip.
I really love my Monroe, it shows how much I changed because when I first saw this piercing I thought it was cute but I thought it'd never fit me but it does, it actually does pretty well if I say so myself. My girlfriend loves it, the most important thing.
Anyways I say go for it to anyone who wants this piercing, its pretty painless getting it pierced and the pain afterwards is minimal. Next im going to get an industrial piercing. I can't wait.
