I have wanted my lip pierced for some time, but I just wasn't for sure if it would fit me, I have had an eyebrow, both nipples, tongue... my ears multiple times in different places and I have had them gauged out to 0ga...
At A Glance Author Joe Contact Joe@bme.anon When A month ago Artist Self Location Missorui After thinking about it for awhile, and looking at tons of pictures on the BME website and reading a lot of stories about other's experiences with it, I decided that I would give it a shot... you can always take it out if you don't like it.
I looked around on the net for a few days to make sure that I had all of my information straight and everything, I decided that I wanted to do it myself, I love the experience of doing my own piercings.
The next day I began to collect the supplies. I went and purchased the jewelry first making sure to check the gauge and everything so that when I purchased the needle I would have the right size, when I pierced my nipple myself, the ring that I planned on going in the piercing was much bigger than the needle that I used so it ended up taking a few hours longer to actually get the piercing set and in place.
I looked at a few different sizes and I went with a 14ga labret stud.
A friend of the family owns a veterinarian clinic, so I went there to find the needle, after chatting with them for a bit and telling them what it was for, they let me purchase the size and type of needle that I needed for the piercing..
I still had my mouthwash and everything from when I had my tongue pierced, so I was going to use that during the process...
After getting home later that night I decided that I would set everything out and make sure that everything was sterile, and that I had everything that I needed. If you are going to be doing your piercings your self I cannot stress this part enough... you do NOT want to get an infection, I have had a few friends that have had that happen to them because they didn't take the time to prepare, and it was not a pretty sight, most of them ended up having to go to the hospital for medicine to get rid of their infection, and that costs way more than to just have a professional do it for you, so again it would be better to have a professional do your piercing, but if you are going to do it at home, I cant stress enough the need for everything to be clean and sterile...
I had everything I needed, I shaved my face. cleaned the area, and I had found the perfect place for my piercing, I wanted to make sure that I had it placed in a spot that looked good, but it was also in the right spot so that it wouldn't hurt the inside of my mouth/gums ..Or rub on my teeth...
After finding the right spot, I wanted to test the waters... I wasn't sure how bad that it would hurt... I pressed the needle against my skin... and I felt a slight pop, it was through the first layer of the skin, it went through so easy, I decided that I would just slide it the rest of the way through, after just a few seconds it was through, nearly painless, there was a little bit of discomfort, but it was must a minor annoyance..
After looking at it for a few minutes, making sure that it was defiantly where I wanted it, I slid the stud through the end of the needle that went into my lip, and pulled the needle thru stud and all I put the ball on the end of the stud and bam, my new labret piercing, I cleaned everything up and admired it, ... it turned out perfect.
For the first 2 days or so there was a little bit of swelling, it looked like someone had punched me in the lip... but after that it went back to normal, and there was no other problems at all.
I made sure to wash my mouth out with the mouthwash I had when I pierced my tongue, and brush my teeth also at least 3 times a day to keep food and bacteria out of my mouth.
It has been a few weeks now, and it still looks great. The pain is nearly all gone, and I love it! Its a great addition, to the rest of my piercings, I plan on keeping it in now that it is done.. I would recommend for everyone to give it a shot, you may not think that it would fit you at first, but you may be totally surprised at how it looks on you when it is all said and done.
