So, I've been looking around a lot lately to get a facial piercing. I first went to the guy who has done my chest tattoo and lip tattoo, but he didn't have any open appointments, and also didn't remember me. So I decided to try other piercers in the area. I had never heard anything bad about any of the tattoo artists or piercers in my area (State College PA) so I figured anyone in the area was pretty clean and safe. I ended up going to a tattoo/piercer that was in a shop near my therapist. I went in and asked if they had any appointments, and he said that he had time before his next tattoo to do a quick lip piercing.

I decided to get the right side of my lip pierced because my girlfriend also had her lip pierced, and it would work out better if we both had the same side pierced, so when we kissed our piercing wouldn't line up.

The experience began with me filling out the appropriate paperwork, and the piercer, Justin taking a copy of my license. I then waited about 5 minutes while he prepared the piercing room. Upon walking back I sat down on the table and let him put a small black dot on my lip where he planned on piercing it. I lay down after looking in the mirror and approving of the spot ((through the bottom of my lip)). I laid down and the piercer instructed me to breathe in, and when he said breath out I felt the needle pierce my skin. I wouldn't say that I felt pain at that point, but rather a warm feeling, and the next thing I knew he was bring over pliers and inserting a captive ball ring into my lip. At first I felt as though the 14 gauge piercing looked a little large for my lip. After a while, and a lot of time looking in the mirror.. I felt as though the ring suited my face well, and I felt as though I liked it leaning towards the outside of my lip better than towards the inside.

The ring in my lip is a 14 gauge surgical steal captive ball ring. Justin instructed me that it was a little bit larger than the ring I would be able to put into my lip after it had healed. He told me that my lip may swell and gave me a paper with instructions on how to take care of my lip, including gargling with mouth wash and avoiding contact with my hands and my newly pierced lip and contact with other mouths and my lip. I felt as though it was easy to clean my lip in the shower after and before work, when I usually got a shower. I used anti bacterial soap to clean my lip and turned the ring to make sure that the inside of the hole was clean as well as the outside. I think that I will go back to the same guy who pierced my lip as long as it heals well. I know that sometimes your own care of the piercing can affect its healing, but from hearing from friends that usually if the person knows how to pierce, you don't have much problem with the healing process.

I feel as though the piercing fits my face very well, and wouldn't want it any other way. I hope that it heals well, and I am looking forward to getting other facial piercings by the same piercer.

So far I have only received positive feedback from my friends about my piercing. A lot of people like it, think that it looks good, and wonder where I got it. Almost everyone I work with feels as though it suits my face very well. I feel as though I may get the other side of my lip pierced to have venoms, but I think that my girlfriend is going to get that done, and I don't want to copy her. She has a lot of facial piercings as well as other body piercings.

Another piercing that I am considering getting would be an orbital in the upper cartilage. I think that I would want a 14 gauge piercing above my conch. I have heard from numerous people that cartilage piercings hurt more than almost any piercing. I would want a black titanium ring in my ear, but I am afraid to get that piercing done because I feel that it is one of the more difficult piercings to get, and one of the most painful piercings to have heal. It would also take a long time to hear, and hurt throughout the night if you sleep on that side. I feel that an orbital is a piercing that I want, but it is not a piercing that I would want to deal with while it heals.
