I think my love for piercings started in about seventh grade. I begged my mom and dad for over 3 years and their answer to every piercing I asked about was of course NO. Of course it was understandable though because as a seventh and eight grader I will have to admit I was not the most responsible child. My freshman year followed and was just like the two years before. I got a flat out NO every time I even thought about asking.

My tenth grade year (this year) my parents and I went to a restaurant and our waitress had her lip pierced with a little stud. Which of course brought the whole piercing matter up again right there at the table. I finally persuaded my mom to make an appointment to get my lip pierced and she was not exactly too happy about it. But I was the happiest chick in the world.

So my mom set the date with the piercer and I found out that he was the father of one the girls on one of my old softball teams.

I told my friends about the date set and they did not believe I would and they thought that I would just decide not to do it at the last minute. They have all always known that I have an obsession with body mods. But they just never thought I would make it through on of my own.

=) I proved them wrong by actually doing it.

The drive there seemed like it took hours. When my mom and I got to the place Don was working on a tattoo so we had to leave and then go back. My mom went to the bank and then we got food. Then finally went back. Don was free by then and I was way ready to be pierced.

The piercing place was in his home so his wife was there too. And they both could not believe how much I had grown up and that quiet little me was actually getting something pierced.

To my mother's disappointment I did not change my mind but sat in the chair and allowed him to clean my lip. I watched patiently as he opened and cleaned everything. Then he marked my lip and I checked to make sure I liked it. I agreed that the markings were fine. So he put the clamp on then checked to make sure they were lined up and asked if I was ready. this whole time my mom was sitting on the couch covering her eyes and telling me that I could stop any time. No way. After everything was just right, he was finally ready to pierce me. So. I took a deep breath. And then I looked down a little and could see the needle sticking out of my lip.

It looked pretty amazing. Too bad my mom did not think so =). The needle going through was fine and it just felt weird. The ring going through was a little more painful but nothing I could not handle. But when Don had to put the ball on it. Well. Let's just say OUCH.

After Don gave me the aftercare sheet and went over it with me I floated to the car and my mom paid and we drove home =).

Right after I got in the house I raced to the phone and called my best friend and said, (well mostly squealed) guess what?! So she guess that I actually went through with it and got all grossed out by it and was like "Oh my god! I can't believe you actually DID that! You're crazy" I had this huge smile on my face the whole time. We made plans to meet up later that night so she could see it in person. I then called another friend but failed to mention my new piercing. So when I got to her house everyone else was all excited to see it and surprised that I did it and I pulled it off so well.

I iced it but it never got swollen and it was not ever sore. So far it's been doing just fine and I have had no trouble with it. I have had it for a little over three months. And I am just waiting until I am 18 for my next one which i think may either be a septum, monroe, or anti eyebrow. We will just have to wait and see.

I change it often. Mainly just to clean the one i'm wearing really good and to have a new fresh and clean one in.

I would not suggest that anyone really try self piercing because it's just so much easier to wait for parents to come around. Or wait until you're legal. Because infection is nothing to mess with.

But if you're legal or your parents are just cool enough to let you do it I would totally suggest a lip piercing =).
