I had wanted to get my lip done since I got my nose pierced last summer and kept putting it off because of work and school. I eventually asked my boss if it would be alright if I did and after she agreed I decided that I was going to get it done.
At A Glance Author Beth Contact ilovedarla_04@yahoo.com When A month ago Studio Icon Location Murfreesboro, TN I went to Icon and told them I wanted my lip pierced in the middle. Five minutes later I was rinsing my mouth out with listerene and laying down on the table. The piercer was very nice and made me feel very comfortable. She cleaned the outside of my lip and then marked my lip on the inside and out and made sure it was even.
She got me to look at the marks and see if they looked right to me. They did, so she put the clamp on and said that everyone says that hurts more than the piercing. She then put the needle through which was not very painful at all. I was very pleasantly surprised. A nose piercing is definitely more painful.
She then put the hoop through which was a little uncomfortable but did not really hurt. Then she put the ball on it and told me to go take a look. My mouth felt really funny, but I loved the way it looked. I was ecstatic! She told me to mix listerene and water half and half and to rinse with that after meals/snacks, and to clean "crusties" off with saline. She warned me not to wear makeup while it heals because it could get infected. I paid and left. My and my friend then went to Walmart to get Saline in an aerosol can and some listerene.
It never really hurt afterwards, maybe just a little tender at times. I went back to work and my boss was still fine with it. About a week later there had been some complaints and my boss informed me that she wanted it taken out or a retainer put in. I thought that this was particularly crappy seeing as I made sure that it was okay before I got the piercing done. There was no way I was going to take it out, so I went back to Icon to ask their advice on what to do about it.
They said definitely not to put in a retainer because it would get infected and cause some bad scar tissue. He said my best bet would be to put in something smaller and hope she was ok with that. They took out the hoop and put in a labret but it was too short to accommodate my lip. So they put the hoop back in, and I ordered a longer labret because they didn't have any the size I needed there.
It was going to be two or three weeks before it came in and I could not afford to wait that long until I could go back to work. I tried another tattoo parlor and they didn't have the size that I needed either. Apparently a 16 G 1/2 inch labret is somewhat hard to come by! So I determined I either needed to find one somewhere or go to a 14 G. They said it was too early to stretch my lip yet.
I ordered another online because I was sure it would be there before the one I ordered from Icon. I couldn't wait any longer to work though. I gave up trying to find a safe way to go to work so I just went to Hot Topic and bought a pack of 14 G labrets. I went home took out the hoop and my mom tried to put one of the labrets in for me. She started pretty much making a new hole! HA! So I had to put it in and did not have much trouble. It did not seem like the hole was too small for the jewelry.
Its been two days since I put it in and its doing fine so far. KNOCK ON WOOD ha! Hopefully it will stay that way so I can keep my lip piercing and my job! Altogether I have spent over 70 dollars on a 25 dollar piercing. Ridiculous, huh?! And never get your lip pierced if you are working even if your boss says it is o.k. They may go back on it and then you are forced to figure something out! But now I have something smaller in and I still really like it and maybe there will be more piercings for me in the future! I know if I do it will be someone the sun doesn't shine so I do not have to go through so much trouble to be able to keep a job.
Happy Piercing!
